Mystery Ranch has worked well for me over the past few years. I’ve done hunts in Alaska, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, and Kentucky with them. In Alaska I used the Marshall for sheep, caribou and moose. Everywhere else has either been a pintler or a metcalf.
I don’t like the blocky look of the 2024 tacomas. My wife has a 2020 and I have a 1996 tacoma. I drive mine everywhere, even on long trips. I’ve got 330k miles on it and it’s still going.
I stopped using Solomons a few years back, not from them falling apart, but they were wearing my feet out. That narrow ass toe box was killing me after a day in the woods. I went to a pair of Scarpa light hikers and haven’t had any issues, but I am trying a pair of Altra trail shoes and so far...
I have a large 7500 cubic inch MR pack that I’d like to trade for a small MR pack. This has the old fastex buckles for the NICE or guidelight frame. My pack is black. Let me know if you’re interested.
I hate wearing it, mostly because I’m lazy and hate taking a vest on and off to change out layers. Over the past few years I have found companies (non hunting) that make blaze orange layers and so I’ve been using those. Like some have stated before, I just don’t like being told what to do.
I use mine for general shooting and hunting quite often. I also have a buddy who used one the same way. Both of them use them on 556 rifles, mine is an AR and his is a Ruger ranch. I’ve shot deer, coyotes, turkey and prairie dogs with no issues. So far all the hunting has been under 200yds but...
I don’t doubt it useful and can be accurate, I just figured when teaching new shooters how to be precise, dialing would be the way to start. Not doing holds for windage and elevation.
I didn’t have a forward mounted dope card, we had a time limit to mil a target and then shoot it. I just find it easier to dial and hold for wind, if necessary, not hold for wind and elevation.
