I have 10x50 ELs and a ATC. I think it’s the perfect combo, at least for me in the Idaho mountains….I’m also not sure why the 10x50 ELs aren’t more popular. Seems like everyone has 10x42s
What do you mean “you don’t track elk”? I guess me and all the old guys that taught me everything have been doing it wrong lol. I hunt timber mostly, and that’s what you do if you want to kill elk.
That 338wm 250gr partition is the exact combo that was used by the guys who taugh me how to hunt elk on the thick WA coast, where your classic broadside isn’t always possible and you may have to take a hard quartering shot through a vine maple patch, because that’s all you’re gonna get. These...
I’m not sure what you guys consider temp unstable, but H100 V is at only .78 deg/fps. It’s also the most accurate powder by far in my 300wsm’s with 180 class bullets. I’ll probably try it in my daughters Creedmoor for the heck of it.
You couldn’t pay me to hunt East side general season. I’m pretty well convinced guys set up elk camp in east side units just to get away from their wives for the week. I would hunt the west side and put in for east side tags.
This particular bullet (120gr) is sort of the exception. From what I understand, silhouette shooters asked Nosler to beef up the jackets to help with knocking over targets. My oldest daughter shoots them in her 7mm-08 and they’re accurate and deadly. Her buck this year was taken at 70yds...
Find a way to get some RL-26 if you can. It’s magic for the ol’ 270win. I’m getting just over 1/2” groups at 3100fps with 150gr AccuBonds from my Sako a7, and I don’t even have much time into development.
