Why did you go with a heavier arrow? Was it because of penetration issues or reading stuff on forums? I’ve been happy with 430-440 grain arrows with a 70 lb draw weight. Seems like a happy medium (for me) between trajectory and good penetration. My opinion is that shot placement is most...
Legit explanation I could see myself doing. Even modern muzzleloaders can be a funny animal. I had a clean miss on a nice whitetail a couple years back. Think I had a Thor bullet that was maybe too loosely fit that it maybe came a little loose off the charge. Only thing I can think as it was...
If you apply as a group with people that have 0-1 pp that would bring down your average points so you wouldn’t draw, and probably allow some people in the party to accumulate 3 points.
Archery elk hunt in Montana was my first. You live in NJ. A week or more camping out in the mountains is a success whether or not you even see the animal you’re after. When I do escouting for new places, I look at nearby hiking trails on AllTrails and look at the photos. Gives you a good idea...
It seems like there just aren’t many deer when you “go deep” into the National Forest like there used to be. Best deer numbers seem to be near private land with food plots or homes that feed them (despite that not being allowed). Those earn-a-buck seasons hammered the northern deer population in...
At your shoots ask around who the best person is to take a lesson at locally. If you just started, you don’t have the form consistency to worry about tuning yet. It’s kind of like a golf swing. You can watch every video, but it doesn’t mean shit until you see a video of you shooting. You’re...
My wife decided she wants to take a road trip with the kids to Kentucky over their spring break in a couple weeks. Planning to visit Mammoth Caves and then head over toward Lexington. Not sure where this idea came from but I don’t complain because she doesn’t complain about hunting trips.
I...
The biggest advantage to applying with 2 points is that you’re guaranteed to draw the following year with greater than 2 points. Applying as a group you’re likely to all hunt this year, but if not, guaranteed to all go together next year.
If you all apply individually it kind of seems like a waste of $800 in points. Feel like the only reason for points is to ensure you all draw together. So if the 3 other guys draw, are you going to go solo next year? If you were going to apply individually, then do it with zero points.
In all seriousness, I’m not much help because I’ve never done a fly in trip. Kind of depends what kind of food and how much you’re bringing. If you’re bringing any kind of flasks those will probably go back empty. Maybe jet boil fuel. A 100 lbs might be a conservative estimate for black tail...
No doubt the boots they make already work for the vast majority, but I don’t think I’d go as far as calling an anatomical fit a niche. The Lone Peak has been the number one hiking shoe basically since its inception.
I think it will be more significant for NR general tags and easier draw units. If you’ve already been waiting and can buy a couple more points for regular and save $1000, that probably makes sense for many people. Harder to draw units it probably makes more sense financially to go special than...
