    Official Montana 2022 draw thread!

Party of two nonresidents both successful for a general tag with two points. Can't wait.

    Arrow build considerations

Awesome! Thanks for this, it is great to have an idea of a specific arrow that I know will fly well. Ultimately I am going to defer to people that know much more about this than me, but I also want to understand why my equipment does or does not work for me, so it is cool to see how people...

    Arrow build considerations

Thank you guys! This is exactly the type of feedback I Haha I am not sure what happened there, 343 IBO I had too many numbers bouncing around my head.

    Arrow build considerations

Thanks for the help Kyle. So far I haven't killed anything with a bow. I came to bow hunting recently after several years of spearfishing. My first year I primarily spent practicing and a few days blundering around after whitetail. Last year I (ineffectively) hunted elk, and my whitetail season...

    Arrow build considerations

Hi all, I have spent some time reviewing previous arrow build threads, messing around with various calculators, and reading articles, but would appreciate some guidance specific to me (I was unhappy with my previous arrows, and I think that was largely because I didn't know what questions to...

Montana 900-20 -- most fun possible

I think I bought one if I remember correctly, so that's all I had This is something I am trying to figure out. If there is significantly less opportunity to the west I will probably hunt the Southeast. Awesome feedback, thanks!

Montana 900-20 -- most fun possible

Thanks Tradchef, I am excited—best of luck to you! I spent the better part of two years in Montana when I was younger, it is one of my favorite places on the planet, but so far my explorations have been pretty limited to the NW of the state. No matter what I am excited to ramble around and...

Montana 900-20 -- most fun possible

Thanks for all the info, Hobbes. That brings up a good point, do you think setting up camp in the Southeast is a no-brainer? I am primarily interested in opportunity, and while it seems like there are bigger bucks in the Southeast, there seems to be more public land in the Southwest, and I would...

Montana 900-20 -- most fun possible

Nope, he is a blue heeler. Not particularly helpful for hunting birds, but he is super well-behaved so I at least wouldn't have to worry about him doing something stupid. Last year a small doe fed right up to within 4 yards of us in Idaho before it decided something was off and took off running...

Montana 900-20 -- most fun possible

I took a look at FWP today and was thrilled to find out that I drew the 900-20 antelope tag in Montana. I know that it is considered to be a pretty sure thing, but I struck out on everything else this year so I was still pleasantly surprised. I have a general Western archery elk tag in...

SITKA Films: The Last Punk Rock Thing Left

This is really cool to see. I came to hunting through spearfishing, Healey and Justin Lee were part of the reason I went out and bought a bow.

Lessons from a first elk hunt for those considering the same

Awesome thread. My first elk hunt was last year too, solo archery elk in the Idaho Panhandle. I couldn't find a partner, and in late July I got a new job so couldn't take much time off. I had to bail on my original plan, luckily my job is 100% remote, so I just took some money I had been saving...

    Sucessful Washington Elk hunters...

Well right now I am in New England, so even if it is just all out-of-state hunts when I get there at least I can cut down on my drive time!

    Sucessful Washington Elk hunters...

I'm moving to Washington in July, hunting westside archery elk this year. It will only be my second year hunting elk (Idaho panhandle last year). I will be keeping an eye on this thread. Let me know if anybody needs someone to hunt with!

    Didn’t draw

Yeah I just checked, there are 32 nonres Snake River A tags remaining in Idaho and nothing else.

    Didn’t draw

My first DIY elk hunt was in Idaho last year--however, I believe the draw changed in Idaho and OTC units (which have a maximum number of licenses available in Idaho) went on sale early. Last I checked, there were only a few tags left in really tough units. I would love to hear from someone that...

Let’s see your Pickup Truck Sleep Setup

I want to build something like this out, but it has been a nightmare trying to find a cap to fit my bed. I felt like they were all over Craigslist until I needed one.

    2021 Montana Elk Draw

The worst part about not drawing is not being in the Mountains in September. The second worst part is not being able to spend every idle moment between now and September dreaming about being in the mountains surrounded by screaming bulls in September.

    2021 Montana Elk Draw

Back to the drawing board for me. Does anyone have any insight into what the chances are for leftover tags?

    2021 Montana Elk Draw

From what I understand from this that means that you didn't draw originally, but then when people started surrendering their tags after not drawing an LE you got a released tag, so you got the best of both worlds as you didn't have to use your points. Congrats!
