    Post Covid and altitude adaptation?

Was in central CO for MZ season 9/10-9/20. Altitudes from 8500-11600 and averaged about 6-7 miles per day. I had covid the first two weeks of August, probably an average case. Prior to leaving FL, i had some residual chest congestion and a persistent cough. The lower humidity helped...

    Colorado Bugle Report?

Central CO was absolutely silent during MZ 9/10-20. We didn't hear a peep and were getting the same feedback from other hunters we talked to.

Who are the Trackers- Of the Electronic Kind

I share my tracks with my wife on the Inreach for "safety" and to ensure I'm still married when I get home. If I look back at them, it's just for curiosity. Two years ago my buddy and I forgot to start the track and on our hike out decided to drop off a ridge in a more direct route to the...

    Post Covid and altitude adaptation?

I had covid the first two weeks of August. Will be in CO from FL in a couple of weeks. I've still got some minor chest congestion so I'm wondering what altitude will do. Going back to full cardio this week. My plan is to camp low and move slow. I'll report back.

FL or Southeast Elk Hunters - logistics

I am cheap. I also like to travel heavy - extra clothes, extra rifle, extra food, never too many beers, and I'm cheap, so flying is really not in the cards for me. Flights, rentals, and meat shipping would double my cost. The drive is tough but so is elk hunting. Sleeping in the truck...

    Glove options

There's a lot of personal preference that goes into this but here's my set-up: Merino liner gloves for general hiking (>25 degrees) and warmer glassing. My go-to glove. I have more of a gripe with the touch-screen finger tips than with the quality of the merino. Convertible wool rag mittens...

Got my bull back from the taxidermist.

Absolute wall hanger! That eye from the side makes him look like he's gonna tell me a secret. Nice work.

    2020 Colorado 2nd Rifle Success

You gotta pull that broadhead and ID it. It has the potential to send the 17,000 elk broadhead threads into a tailspin. Congrats on the bull!

    NM hunt recap

Guys, thanks for all the replies but I'm still looking for input on the what the bugling bull was doing. Especially the whimper. I need to make this a learning experience. Should I start a new post with more specifics?

    NM hunt recap

I posted earlier this year about my first elk trip to CO last year. Got drawn NM 1st rifle this year and my hunting partner drew CO so we went separate ways. Having never stepped foot in NM and knowing it would be a test, I said what the hell and decided to go solo. Weather was warmer than...

    New Mexico Unit 52

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. All duly noted. So as I'm escouting I'm finding lots of roads like the two in this pic. FS website says they're closed but should I assume I will see utv's and such on them during the hunt? Not sure how much this will change my plans but it may help my...

    New Mexico Unit 52

I drew 52 first rifle so I'm following this post. I'm mostly interested in logistics. Best campsites, roads that are shown open but impassable, where the crackheads live, where the outfitters live, closest gas/water/store/ER/good burger... Looks like I will be solo, doing a combo of truck...

    Wild hog Bullet ?

+1 on everything Packin said. I've also had a hog take a 308 to the vitals and pop up like a carnival target. One of the weirdest things I've ever seen. It's typically fairly easy to stalk within 50 yards for hogs. Just stay downwind and move slow - they aren't renowned for their sight...
