Got lucky on this coues in the southern Arizona wind this morning. Shot him right under 500 yards across a canyon, my longest shot ever on deer. Heck of a solo pack out.
I figured it’s been long enough that I actually have some time behind the gun on the range and on hunting trips that I can give an honest update on my thoughts on this rifle.
First thing I have to say is it’s easy to carry even with the long barrel.
Accuracy has been right inline with what I...
I know this is an old thread but I drew the November Ft huachuca coues tag. I’m also retired army and my father in law lives just outside the gate.
I scouted all last weekend and saw probably 15-20 different groups of does but not a single buck. I’m guessing it was too hot and a full moon so...
My 2022 Coues buck a little 2x3 with eye guards that came in right at the 90" mark.
I drew a 2023 Arizona rifle tag for the week of Thanksgiving and will be going to Mexico in January for another rifle hunt. Hoping to reach that magical 100" mark this year.
I second this one. I go every year in January with a few buddies. The sheer number of deer we see is unmatched and it's been a blast every time. The outfitter we use does DIY hunts down there for under 4K. That covers a week's worth of food with, all the permitting for weapons and tags, and...
Thanks for posting. I'm going back to SE Alaska in a few weeks for 10 days to deer hunt. I've only bear hunted there and I'm sure the deer hunting is very different. I'm trying to consume as much deer hunting info as possible between now and then. One thing I learned is to take some back up rain...
I wanted to jump in here with a question of my own if that’s cool. I’ve used a lot of Trijicon optics over the years for both hunting and military applications and have been happy with them. I’m looking at the same optic for my Sig cross in .308 because I don’t shoot long range and only need...
I’ve been traveling for a while and haven’t had the chance to shoot yet. All I can tell you guys is weight, feel, and trigger pull all are exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been grabbing different ammo as I can find it so I have a few options to see what shoot best. I’m about two weeks out...
I’ve been wanting a “do it all” big game rifle for a while. The idea was something light weight so today I went to Cabela’s and picked up a Fierce twisted rival to add to the safe. 300 win mag was all they had in stock and that’s been a caliber I’ve considered for a long time. I have a Leupold...
I found that taxidermists are typically the most helpful on telling you where good spots are because they are hoping to get your business. My buddy's daughter drew a youth elk tag here in Arizona this year. They made the trip down from Wyoming and the game wardens were very helpful in putting...
Thanks for that tip. My plan was to focus on lion hunting right around the end of elk season where there'd be kill sights. My thought was I could get out, look for birds to tell me where the gut piles were, then I'd set up on likely approach routes to the piles and call. Don't know if that would...
Hey all, I have a mountain lion hunting question that I'm sure has been asked before. I just didn't have much luck with the search feature so please forgive me if it's a repeat. I just moved back to Arizona after being gone for about 20 years and decided I'd pick up an OTC mountain lion tag when...
