Sleeping bag carry with Mystery Ranch Metcalf

I've had a Mystery Ranch Metcalf for a few years and always carried my sleeping bag inside it in a compression sack. With the sleeping bag and all other gear for 5-7 days it is maxed out for room. Just got a new sleeping bag and its a bit bigger and I am guessing that with it inside the pack...

Glued on recoil pad removal help

Removed a few from Sendero's to put on a Grind to fit. Take a razor knife and very carefully score around the hard plastic piece between the recoil pad and the stock. This will prevent chipping when you remove the pad. Use the razor knife and cut the old rubber pad off, you will find a steel...

Help me with my pack weight

To look at this a different way, most people are concerned about dropping 6 ounce from their pack weight or 2 ounces from their rifle. I go on a diet and train before hunting season and can drop between 5 and 7 lbs, yes get fat over the winter. That 7lbs comes right off your full carry...

    Sitka mountain jacket over puffy???

I use the Sitka Timberline jacket over a Cabela's puffy and a sweater and it works great. The Cabela's puffy is a bit lighter than some of the others. This give me all I need down to minus 5 or 6 here in Canada. With the hood up and a toque I can layer down as it warms up. Always try on your...

    Is There a Line?

Yes there is a line but it is different for each person. For myself I have passed on many deer and a few ok bucks and did not shoot a deer at all this year. That being said when I was young I almost always took the first deer that walked out. I just chose not to now, I think young/new hunters...

    Mystery Ranch gun boot

I check the internet and can not find a gun boot attachment for a Mystery Ranch Metcalf pack anywhere. I see a few different one for other brands, I already have one for my Badlands day pack but would like to have one specifically made for my Metcalf. The Quick Draw Rifle Sling is not what I am...

Need advice - driving on icy I-25 and lost control multiple times

Always remember that 4 wheel drive will only give you more control driving , it does nothing for stopping. People think that once you put it in 4 x 4 you can drive faster. See these guys waay too often stuck in the median between 4 lanes highways after they try to avoid slower traffic. At the...

This is your guide. How much do you tip?

The thing that gets me is the hunters comment" well we got him" I'm thinking it should have been " thanks you, you just saved my life, I screwed up 2 shots but you fixed it" I understand that not everyone can stay calm and steady in these situations, even a hunter with an animal that close but...

    Sitka Hem length

The hem is not sewn, it is folded over and some type of glue or seam sealer is used. I have had them for a few years and worn them for a week at a time on 3 sheep hunts, a few days on a couple of moose hunts and while white tail hunting. Cut the fabric on the knee while crawling over rocks, to...

    any good universal phone scopes?

I just bought a Gosky large cup style for my Vortex Razor of of Amazon, one of the few that are large enough to fit over the eye piece. It mounts to the scope solid and fits my phone with case no problem and is easy to align. For the price I think it was well worth it. The only think I may add...

    Trekking poles; gimmick or gear?

I wont go into the mountains with out them. At time I will only take one depending on my pack load, trail or not and steepness of the climb. I've broken poles before and spent the time to find/make a good walking stick before continuing on, above the tree line that isn't a simple or quick task.
