For anyone that has hunted this unit during the archery season, I have a few questions about the area. If anyone is willing to help just message me. Heading out mid-September and have been studying these areas and just need some questions answered before I apply. Thanks
I’m torn between applying or not. I can get drawn for the unit I’ve been looking for. I was also considering unit 57/58, but can’t find too much info on those units for archery.
I was wondering how bad is was. I haven’t applied yet because of all the reports of winter kill. I haven’t heard how bad it is in the Gunnison Basin, but I’ve heard it’s bad in a lot areas of the West.
Just wondering what everyone is shooting this year. I'll be shooting either an Athens Afflixtion or a Hoyt Maxxis 31 with Easton XX78 2315s tipped with a standard 125 grain Muzzy.
I'm going to start in unit 521 since I have experience there, but also have places marked in unit 53. I know it will probably be crowded, but I felt like it was time to go back to the mountains. First time solo which will be a good test for me.
I'm heading to Colorado in 5 weeks and now I hear of another possible shutdown. I was getting ready to rent an InReach, but if a shutdown is coming do I risk it and go ahead and rent one or wait? Do you think we will have a shutdown again or not?
I shoot a Athens Afflixtion and I love it. It's very smooth and has a solid backwall. Customer service is great and I will be buying another Athens when the time comes. My bow is 70# @ 27" and feels like 60 pound on the draw. Very nice.
Thanks for the replies. I plan on staying within a 3 mile radius because of the possible pack out. I will be deboning the meat if I do get one down. I plan on starting plan A in unit 521 with more backup plans in unit 521, 421 and 42. I've hunted in the past around Durango, Grandby and Kremmlin...
I've been elk hunting a few times before with friends, but since I can't get anyone to go with me this time I'm going solo. I'll be heading to Colorado from Indiana in early Sept. and have decided to just try for a cow. I'm in my mid 40's and I workout everyday. I've packed an elk out before so...
I'm right there with you. Had a group of us that went west for a few years, but now everyone has kids or grandkids that are at that busy age. My daughter is graduating this year and my boy is old enough that I'm heading west by myself this year. Figure if I'm going to chase my dreams before I...
