A few weeks ago I got a deal on my first ever compact binos, some Kowa 10x33. Comparing them to my Swarovski 10x50 in low light I was very surprised how well the little lenses did so decided to order a pair of Zeiss Victory Pocket 8x25. I received the pocket binos a few hours ago, so far they're...
I would look at the new Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42. Only 19.1 ounces. Second focal plane is fine for a 3-15 in my mind. I like the HSR-5i reticle because of the free space around the center dot and overall simplicity.
I have to agree with Justace. Vortex dominates that price point. Even some of the Diamondbacks can be had for $200.
I have a bunch of ~$200 Leupold scopes that fill the role you're talking about and they're not great. I want to try out a Meostar 3-9x40 for $375. They have a nice aesthetic and...
I like 8x binos best but use 10x a fair amount because I have a nice pair of 10x. Really you cant go wrong with the 10x SLC.
Even offhand you could probably get more and more detail going up until about 20x, but it might be nauseating. Really I hate to think of it.
I hesitate to say it because Zen Ray is out of business, but the Zen Ray Prime can still be found for under $500 and is optically unbeatable for the money.
I have seen the discontinued Leupold Mckinley sell used for around $300 which is the same bino just rebranded. That would have a warranty.
Let's face it, you want top of the line binoculars. While even some ~$500 binos offer a "wow" view, they are not premium binos...
Go for the SLC and don't second guess it.
I have a Swarovision 10x50. I don't really care about the flat field feature.
