What items do you carry multiples of while in the backcountry?

Not even a spare mini bic or a petzl? Damn. I don’t think I could ever cut those out.

What items do you carry multiples of while in the backcountry?

My list is much the same Knives Headlamps Lighters Water purification Socks Waist buckle The one thing that I carry in duplicate that I don’t see here is a heavy duty contractor bag. A pair weighs about 3-4oz and they are very versatile. I’ve used them to wade creeks, line my pack, as a pack...

2023 Best Elk Hunt Photo, sponsored by Kifaru

9/15/23 My bull from this year. Managed to go 3/4 on public, and I think this is my favorite photo. Some really amazing photos from y’all. I gotta step my game up!

Most expensive thing you lost while hunting

Lost my silverback release this year. Luckily I lost it after the bull was dead, must have put it in my pocket while field dressing and it fell out. Other than that I lost a bugle tube in the backcountry once, I was solo hunting and would have paid 500$ for a new one at the time. Cut the bottom...

    Bad shot placement?

My dad and me both shot a muzzy replaceable blade for a while (he still does) and I had the blades break twice on ribs, that’s when I switched to the G5’s. I’ll have to take a look at their 4blade options nowadays

    Bad shot placement?

He definitely got it in his head to make some distance and ended up dying in the thickest stuff he could find. Thank you to everyone who responded, it was super helpful to hear everyone’s opinions and I feel a lot more confident in my shot choice after talking with y’all. Much love

    Bad shot placement?

That is crazy! I can’t believe you never found him. That’s heartbreaking

    Bad shot placement?

Total distance was about 160-170yds? He went straight uphill which was making me very nervous until we heard the crash and moan. Felt awesome until we started bloodtrailing and second guessing what had happened. I certainly felt that I had made a good shot, but after explaining the situation to...

    Bad shot placement?

Yeah it was excellent in terms of time to kill, literally less than a minute. This is my second less than stellar blood trail with my G5’s. Thinking hard about switching broadheads, but not sure what I want to move towards. Both holes seemed fairly clear, he did have the arrow hanging by the...

    Bad shot placement?

Wow, can’t believe he was up for that long losing all that. I would have been stoked to see a trail like that. Glad you ended up finding him.

    Bad shot placement?

Thanks for the info dump! Never knew that about caul fat. I was just amazed at how quickly he expired and then the corresponding lack of blood. It couldn’t have been more than 15-20 seconds between the shot and hearing him give his death rattle. This is my 4th elk with a bow and I’ve maybe...

    Bad shot placement?

Totally baffled this year after making what I thought was an absolutely money shot. When he turned my arrow was hanging out the other side by its fletching and was covered in bubbly bright red blood. Perfect. Hear him crash after my buddy got a little loud celebrating (he had actually laid down...

2023 OFFICIAL ELK MEAT POLE THREAD

Took the guy with the weird three point/spike 5 years to get one. You’ll get there! Practice your shooting more than you think you need to and save yourself the heartache of having to track a gutshot bull. Luckily he clipped the liver and we found him but blood trailing for 9hrs with no blood is...

2023 OFFICIAL ELK MEAT POLE THREAD

Took my duck hunting buddies out. Both had never gotten elk with a bow, we tagged out on day 12 or 13. I’m the middle photo with the black horned 5pt. So glad we got it done early and had the full weekend for meat packaging!

    Oregon FNG

Hey y'all figured it was time to introduce myself. Been bow hunting Oregon my whole life, gotten lucky on a couple of occasions and am just stepping out from hunting with my Dad. It's definitely shocking to realize how much I rely on him. I'm excited to learn all the shit I don't know and learn...
