We ended up hunting around 7,000 feet and saw plenty of deer but nothing big. We found some really nice bulls but we didn’t have elk tags. The bigger bucks seemed to be up high yet when we were there.
Early next week we are leaving to mule deer hunt the Northern portion of 49. Our original plan was to camp at 8,400 ft and hunt 8,000-9,000 ft. Does anyone have a higher elevation snow report for the area (I’m told 6-8” at the trailhead at 6,800 ft) and has this weather pushed some of these deer...
Athlon Cronus Spotting Scope 12x36x50. Like new condition. No scratches or wear on lenses. Comes with soft case, lens covers, carrying strap, and original packaging. Very compact size with exceptionally clear ED glass. Has separate coarse focus and fine focus adjustments. I purchased this new 5...
Hopefully someone has some pictures they can post in this thread of these giant bears. I also heard there were two over 700 pounds taken this year so far.
Our group took 4 mule deer last year during peak rut in Montana and all 4 tasted just fine. We are used to eating whitetails that feed in crop fields in the Midwest and while the mule deer weren’t quite as good as the Midwest whitetails, they still tasted plenty good. I will say the rutted up...
I’ve been really impressed with First Lite’s Sawbuck brush pant. The material is lightweight and flexible and doesn’t fight movement. They have held up well in cattails, crop fields, and CRP but I have yet to get them into anything real thorny. Not sure they would be durable enough to hunt...
For comfort I use my milennium M100 (11.5 pounds) with the separate slide on bracket for ease of hanging along with lone wolf sticks. Before that I used the lone wolf assault, but nothing compares to the comfort of the millennium sling seats.
I upgraded from an entry level TC Omega to the CVA Optima V2 LR stainless and I can definitely say I like the CVA loaders a lot better after checking out the different models and price points of each company.
I upgraded to 12x50’s after using 10x42’s for many years and haven’t looked back. I worried the 12 power would be a bit much for where I live and hunt in the Midwest but they have served me well, and seem to be the perfect sized binocular for glassing out west when paired with a spotting scope.
We tested the vortex razor 15x33 next to the Athlon Ares 15x45. Both on tripods, for about the last two hours of daylight. The Ares optical performance was right on par with the razor. Knowing the Cronus is a step up from the Ares, I have no doubts it will outperform the razor. The Athlon scope...
The CDS is a great system that will definitely meet your needs. I’ve had great results with all the custom dials that I’ve ordered. Turnaround time is typically 4-6 weeks.
