I assume it was from the elevation as I was able to get several deer and pigs here since. Also could have been elk fever :)
To be sure next time I plan to sight it in when I get there if I'm lucky enough to draw another tag.
If you are hunting high elevation consider sighting in your gun once you get to camp if possible. I sighted in before I left Texas but missed the first shot on a 6x6 elk in Arizona. Luckily he waited for me to adjust and I made the 2nd shot count after adjusting.
I posted this on a couple of other hunting sites but wanted to share my story here as well...
I was hunting in Unit 5A.
Opening morning we left camp at 5:30am and headed to the agreed drop off spot 30 miles away. When we arrived it was still dark so I headed down the hill towards a water hole...
Explorer,
Thank you ! I like yours as well, bet its much lighter than mine. How does it attach to the pack?
I'm also trying to come up with a way to use it as a little pack in itself.
Just finished it up!
Added to buckles on bottom and one on top of pack. I'm very happy with the way this turned out.
The extra storage on the outside is going to work out great as well. I can see a light jacket or raingear going in there for quick access.
Pics of bottom buckle, top buckle...
It took some time to get the zipper right but we finally got it on this morning. If I had to do it again I would get a longer zipper.
I was able to get 2 pullovers shirts stuffed into it for storage/pillow with a little room to spare if needed.
Next step is to make and attach straps on the...
I was looking for an orange blaze for my Mystery Ranch Metcalf and they are sold out on thier website. I started looking around for an alternative and to my surprise there are many places to buy them(but do they fit my pack?) or ideas that other use such as an orange vest, etc. I figured if...
I hear that alot as well. Whenever I mention eating whitetail deer here in Texas the response is always 'does it taste gamey?' I respond with it tastes like real meat :) Of course like you mentioned it is all about how you handle it after the kill.
What conversations about hunting if any do you have with people that don't hunt? Good or bad?
Just wondering as I was talking to a electrician contractor at my house yesterday and I brought up my upcoming hunting trip to Arizona.
He replied with I don't hunt or fish as I don't understand...
I see 2 response here had to do with hunters from Texas. Do people from Texas have a bad rep when hunting out of state? Just curious because I am headed to Arizona in November and wondering do I need to cover up my license plate :)
