    Feedback on backcountry elk loadout

I run a gortex 3-layer top and bottom. They save lives. They make a pillowcase to stuff clothes in for a pillow for a few ounes or used a ultra light sil bag. Take 2 headlamps. Firestarter and ferro rod, 2 forms to make a fire. 2 socks 2 undies total. 50# sucks. 60# sucks more unless it's only...

Is this the same headlamp as the Peax?

This appears to be the same headlamp for 1/3 the price. Can anyone confirm this? Or have they used it? I have 2 of the Peax ones as I have been replacing BlackDiamond Storm 350 and 400's as they break or batteries leak over time and ruin them...

Elevation change to stop other hunters

My uncles, in their mid to late 60's... hunted the same unit for 25+ years...last year only 1 group got out to hike other than them in the unit... it's a cow elk hunt, 100 tags, 10% harvest...they get out and move and typically tag out. Sometimes you just outwork the current status around you.

Taking Equity out of Home to Go on Guided Hunts

this is wild...hunters are insane eddit : my response to this being "wild" is...I have done a lot of sports, activities, etc. over the last 25+ years as an adult...I could never imagine spending that type of money, let alone debt for any of it...but that is relative to the individual. And to me...

Elevation change to stop other hunters

I had days where I did a 4k up and 8k down peak bagging. Never a day under 2,500, most around 3,500 with 50# packs. And I was nothing special what so ever. We started most trips at 7,500' and pushed pass 14k.

I would stay leather. Nevadas. I run the laponnias, nevadas and wildrocks depending on the season I am hunting.

What are reasonable goals for group size?

The reason 100 yards matters most is that has the least amount of detectable factors. You start to stretch out, wind plays in. Wind tends to show up past the 400-yard mark on the kill zone for the game. On calm days I can hit steel at 600 85% of the time. Add a breeze and that goes away quick. I...

What are reasonable goals for group size?

There is a great podcast on Hornady about group size and posts on this site about it. Look around some. This has been discussed at length. Form has talked about group sizes a lot. In a nutshell...20 shots to prove your rifle's cone of accuracy, 30 will give you a little more data, you should be...

Any College wrestling fans as we head into the post season?

Guys under Cael sound like Cael just like guys under Tom sound like Tom generally. Most of the top D1 teams have pretty fired up coaches...the athletes seam a bit mellower. Just my general take. But it makes sense. I always wonder how mellow guys are at Iowa...like Alex marinelli in the past.

Newberg says a $40 elk tag (or whatever it cost) is a $25,000 elk tag for residents.

Theres good and bad people everywhere. I have had both interactions when hunting as a NR.

Is hunting still THAT FUN anymore?

Some of it is people can access more with the SXS. I saw this in offroad. It was reserved for guys that pushed hard on 2 wheels...then the big peak in 2007 and crash...bikes, toy haulers, etc all for sale and the trails emptied out again. I think with hunting the SXS made it a lot easier for...

Any College wrestling fans as we head into the post season?

I follow the sport. It brought out the toughness I use in life to this day. "once you wrestled, everything is easy" -Dan Gable I don't follow a team as much as I follow individuals and just enjoy the sport.
