iphone 13 or GoPro Hero 6

I'm getting ready for an Idaho Elk hunt in the Frank Church, and this is going to be my first adventure in the backpack hunting arena. I know that I am about to encounter some of the most beautiful country I've seen to date, and maybe I'll be blessed enough to add to that some trophy photos by...

    Can you overcompress down?

Simple question, can you over compress down jackets/pants/vest? I bought a couple ultralite S2S compression sacks and with them you can really compress and get all the air pockets out. Can you go overboard and actually damage the down though?

Transportation from Boise to McCall, and back

Have an upcoming elk hunt, Oct 1-7, heading out of McCall. Original plan was to drive from SW Michigan so transportation wasn't an issue. However, the trip is a solo travel, and 2-3 days each way plus fuel and other expenses, flying is actually becoming an option. Flights are down, working...

    bag/liner/pad setup question

Putting together a sleep system for some upcoming hunts, which will all be first for me regarding out of state hunts and backpacking in vs. hotels and houses. 2 different hunts that come up first will be mid/end Sept. mountain goat hunt on Kodiak island as well as Oct 1-7 Idaho elk hunt in the...

    Hiking hills that are clay/mud

So I am in the process of getting myself in shape for some western trips. I live in West Michigan, so mountain training is a no go. However, I do have a decent ravine system around my property that I can do side hilling and up/downs with 100' or so elevation in spots. The kicker is that it is...

    how should puffy pants fit?

Seems like an odd question I'm sure. However, I just ordered my first set of puffy pants (at a great discount) as I'm starting to get more gear for Kodiak Island goat hunt next year. The pants are UA storm ridge reaper pants and always struggle with sizing as I fall between L and XL almost...

    Black Ovis sizing vs. Kuiu

Looking at ordering some merino wool along with maybe a softshell from Black Ovis, curious to the fit compared to Kuiu. Kuiu I wear an XL and the fit is loose but not baggy, and a touch long in the arms but manageable. I'm 5'10'' and bounce back and forth between 180-190 lbs.

    Boot size (length) fit?

So recently I wore a pair of Danner Pronghorns on an Aoudad hunt in SW Texas and quickly realized I needed an upgrade in boots for mountain/rocky terrain. Found a pair of Crispi Lapponia's so I ordered them up in the same size as my Hoka shoes which I wear for work (on my feet for the better...

    Kodiak guided hunt draw chances?

Just starting my research into a goat hunt, something that is of new interest to me after an Aoudad hunt in March. How far out am I facing before being able to go on a hunt, depending on guide availability? Thanks in advance as I am still figuring out how to research this particular hunt.

    Justifying cost?

I find myself in a conundrum while shopping for a 300 win mag (or 300 wsm for that matter) for elk and larger game. I recently picked up a Weatherby vanguard in 6.5 prc and it’s by far the best shooting gun I’ve ever shot. But then again, I haven’t shot a lot of guns outside of shotguns and...

Spin off from saddle hunter thread

Didn't want to hijack another thread. I've been contemplating a saddle for the last year as I see more than ever and have researched a little bit on them. However, my question is whether I will truly benefit from it. I live on my 20 acres that I hunt 100% of my hunts. I have to be very...

CF barrel options for weatherby vanguard

Purchased a Weatherby Vanguard MeatEater edition in 6.5 prc last year and absolutely love it. Shoots lights out, but after going to Texas recently I realized an important factor, barrel length. I am shooting it supressed, and personally don't ever want to shoot without it again mainly for sound...

Been google searching so many things that lead to results on this forum, figured it’d be wise to join officially. Constantly looking for somewhere and something to do for hunting season. Hope to find some answers in the near future.
