    Looking for good cartridge and budget rifle for 14 y/o

    Ruger American, Savage, Thompson Center, Remington 700. Look for a 1:8 twist so you can shoot heavier bullets (~100-108gr). Used guns wouldn't be bad, but if it looks beat up.....its likely been beat up.

    .243 win or 6mm creed.....30-06 is a lot of gun for a 14 y/o and not needed. The 6mm will be easier (and more enjoyable) for him to learn with.

    I'm going through this as well. I was leaning towards the 243 ai but not sure now. What's the OAL length of the PRC? Would it fit in a factory Rem 700? I could get it cut for a wyatts if needed I guess.
