Depends a bit on what kind of shooting you want to do. For a hunting rig I'd look at a lightweight 2-7, 3-9, 2-10, 2-12, etc.
I've got a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16 on my CZ 455 Varmint. It's FFP and has a christmas-tree mildot reticle. Fun for shooting small targets at long (for 22lr)...
If I remember correctly, I saw photos through the Cronus on Snipers Hide, and video through the Diamondbacks on the youtube channel Optica Exotica. Now the DBs on Optica Exotica were 10x42s, but it gives an idea of the relative optical quality of that line, which is definitely below Athlon's...
I don't own either, but I've seen photo and video through both the Diamondback and Cronus. From an optical standpoint the Cronus is the clear winner.
For sub $1000 you have a lot of options.
So having found a Meopro 8x32 here in the classifieds, I thought I'd share my perspective on how it compares to the Ares 8x42. I don't own Alpha glass, nor have I looked through any, so these are my benchmarks.
Build quality of the MeoPro is very good: tight hinge, smooth focus wheel, metal...
Totally agree here; my point is that although there's no downside from a velocity standpoint, there are other considerations (muzzle blast, noise, cost, recoil, etc.). Those tradeoffs may be worth it for the shorter barrel and more powerful round, but that depends on what you want from the...
I can't speak for @Newtosavage, but it sounded to me like he was talking about the efficiency delta between cartridges, not within a cartridge. For example, an 18" barrel .308 pushing a 168gr bullet is going to be slower than an 18" .300 Win Mag pushing a 168gr bullet, but the latter is burning...
I suspect he's referring to the efficiency of the cartridge for a given barrel length. More powder does equal more velocity, but there are diminishing returns on velocity/charge weight when using a shorter barrel.
I've used it for about 15 years at this point. There may be better products out there, but I've never had cause to complain. If you're a high-volume shooter I bet it pays for itself quickly.
Same. Haven't listened to a single one since he moved to spotify. Don't have the time to listen as much these days anyway.
But otherwise I listen regularly to Revolutions, Hardcore History, Jocko Willink, and No Agenda.
Between these two binoculars, which one has the better view?
I picked up an Athlon Ares 8x42 from @gr8fuldoug at Cameraland during black friday. I understand these are low-mid tier glass, but they're the nicest binos I've owned or looked through. I find them a bit large and heavy for...
I have a .54 T/C with 1:48" twist barrel and it shoots PRB very well. Went elk hunting last year using PRB, but didn't get a shot so no info on how well it works. From what I've read, round ball is underrated these days but traditional ML hunters are going back to it more and more.
If you want...
