    Breathable wind layer for hiking

Zpacks wind shirt over a peloton 97 is a great combo while backpacking or hunting but I would not bushwhack in it. I have also heard great things about the Enlightened Equipment Copperfield wind shirt. EE right now has 20% off all stock merch.

One item you wish you carried sooner?

CNOC water bag. Its easier to fill in a stream than a platypus bag due to the dual opening. In cold weather it’s easy to fill in seconds which means less time with hands out of gloves. I can hook my sawyer squeeze to it and hang it on my tipi pole or a tree.

    Sleeping in the cold

One time my dad put a hand warmer inside his socks before crawling into his bag despite my saying it was a bad idea to put it next to the skin. I woke in the middle of the night to what sounded and looked like him being attacked by a shark in the middle of the night as he cramped up trying to...

No advice here but I hope you get some responses. Im of a similar age and same state hoping to get into turkey hunting this fall for more time in the woods. I've been researching and it certainly is a lot to take in. It appears more complicated than I had thought with all of the different...

Responsible Gun Owner Kills Mall Shooter

I live in Indiana and I can tell you the man who stopped the shooter has been called a hero by local law enforcement, the mayor and local media. Simon property group who owns the mall however simply acknowledged that he was carrying a gun in the mall and shouldn’t have been.

    Carrying a pistol while scouting

I carry a glock 43 in hpg kit bag when backpacking in the midwest. I carry because I am typically alone and have encountered people in areas closer to civilization that were out and up to no good. Also, I carry the glock because it weighs less than a hammer.

2P Tent or Tarp and Bivy

For everything but winter camping I love my Zpacks duplex. Set up and take down is very quick and dyneema takes a beating for how light it is. I used to carry a Big Agnes Copper Spur, which is a great tent but, once I made the switch I didn't look back.

    1/2 nest options for Cimarron

I took my new Cimmaron with half nest out for the first time this weekend and it was great. I got the Cimmaron for cold weather hunting/backpacking and added the nest for when I can get my wife out with me. She doesn't like cramming in to my Zpacks duplex but the nest in the Cimmaron was a...

    Tall, lightweight hunting chair

This looks interesting. Have you ever used them hunting? My issue is when the legs of a stool sinks in softer ground which puts my knees up by my ears when i sit.

For car camping we use an 8 person Cabelas Alaska Guide tent. Its a palace for three and can withstand a serious storm.
