Efford's Hunting Adventures Lodge Hunt Experience

That is the same thing I was told several times regarding being reimbursed for the cost of deboning. Denine always told me she had to talk to Charlene, and Charlene always said she had to talk to Bob but he was out flying and wouldn't be in contact until "next week", always. It's a bit amazing...

Efford's Hunting Adventures Lodge Hunt Experience

I definitely agree with the priorities you outlined. I took for granted that I hadn't heard any bad things about the outfitter but will definitely dig in on the details if I ever go on another guided hunt. I did finally receive an email about my hide saying that a bear took it and the guide was...

Efford's Hunting Adventures Lodge Hunt Experience

Below my best attempt at a thorough and probably long-winded review of my experience with Efford's Hunting Adventures Lodge-Based moose hunt. I hope sharing my experience gives others a clearer picture of what to expect if not to caution against the lodge based hunt. I had been researching...

    Covid Moose

I should preface by saying I wasn't trophy hunting - shot the first bull we saw which was on day 3 of a 6 day hunt. Mine was 27.5" and 8 points, definitely nothing to write home about as far as moose are concerned. Before I was there they shot a number of bulls over 30" including one about 40"...

    Covid Moose

The outfitter I went with the last week of September said they had been killing larger bulls than normal this year. Their camps were effectively not hunted for 2 years and even though they did have some Canadian hunters last year hunt the camp I was in, those hunters shot cows & calves because...

Newfoundland Ferry - Weather Issues this weekend (9/23-9/25)?

Just made it to the hotel in St. John's via Air Canada. Sounds like most other flights from Toronto to NL were canceled today, but the red eye was able to avoid the storm, thankfully. There was some turbulence and the landing was the sketchiest I've been through but we made it. Good luck to all...

Newfoundland Ferry - Weather Issues this weekend (9/23-9/25)?

I'm supposed to be headed there this Saturday night via Air Canada into Deer Lake. We will see what happens with flights/ferry but I am fairly confident I will be stuck in Toronto for a while. I've emailed the outfitter to see what their plans and expectations are regarding any potential weather...

    Pressure vs slow cooker?

Here's an article written by J. Kenji Lopez Alt on pressure cookers vs slow cookers vs dutch ovens. If you're not familiar with him, he does a decent job of delving into the science of cooking. His opinion seems to be to use a pressure cooker or a dutch oven and in the article he has several...

    2021 - Weight Loss/Way in Thread

Just wanted to share my small accomplishment as well. After all other hunting plans fell through, this spring/summer I somewhat spontaneously decided to go on my first elk hunt. I was overweight (245lbs.) and in no shape whatsoever. By controlling portions better, doing peloton cycling, and...

What kitchen items for a Wedding Registry?

Some cheap and seemingly uncommon items we had on our registry that we use all the time are multiple sizes of aluminum (restaurant style) baking sheets and racks. The standard size for at home use is a half sheet pan, which we have several of, but we also have a number of quarter and eighth...

    Costco Merino Base Layer Stock

I am new to pellet grills, which is the best one?

I have a Rec Tec 700 and love it. I monitor the temp at the grill grates with an independent thermometer with graphing and it truly holds +-3 or 4 degrees F regardless of ambient temp, so long as the pellet feed parameters are set properly. While selecting which smoker to buy is really...

    Costco Merino Base Layer Stock

Thanks for the reply, it at least gives me hope that the local stores might get them in sometime soon. Has anyone else seen them yet? Any chance someone can find a product number?

    Costco Merino Base Layer Stock

Has anyone seen any merino or merino blend base layers at their local Costco recently? I have checked a few different stores in my area and they all only have the 32 degree synthetic base layers. I've asked the customer service reps if they are planning to get them in at all but I was told...

    Kenetrek Quality

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Sounds like the midsole is nothing to worry about, and the other issues were more cosmetic than anything. I'm still working on the break in but the boots are pretty comfortable already. Hopefully that continues and I like them as much as a lot of others seem to.

    Kenetrek Quality

Good to know, I may give that a shot. Thank you!

    Kenetrek Quality

Has anyone had any problems or complaints about the general quality of workmanship of Kenetreks? I ordered a pair of Kenetrek Mountain Extremes about a month ago based on high praise of people with a lot more hunting experience than I have, here on the forum and elsewhere. Yesterday they were...
