Hi yall! newbie here. I'm interested if you have any recommendations for an outfitter. I'm going solo this year, for Archery OTC Elk. I'm interested in an outfitter to drop me off in an area. I don't need a guide/wall tent/food. I plan to bivy. I'm just interested in having someone get me...
We are heading into an area this year that is known for holding A LOT of black bears but no Grizzly. I know they are generally more afraid of you than you are of them. I really don't feel like carrying bear spray. Do you guys think its necessary to carry bear spray in black bear country??
Ill be going on a 5-day backpacking hunt this September in Colorado. My normal summertime sleeping bag is a Marmot 55 deg Voyager. Temps where I'm going will be in the 30's overnight. Will i be ok if i sleep in my puffy jacket, or do you recommend i upgrade to a better bag. My current bag...
Do you guys do anything special to keep your hands clean when taking out and putting in your contact lenses while caped on the mountian? Hand sanitizer.... ouch? Baby wipes?? Touching my eyes without washing my hands for days is going to be an issue with eye comfort....
Hello fellow rocksliders! I'm going to be real annoying with the questions in these last few weeks leading up to my elk hunt, hahaha. What are you guys packing for breakfast food? I'm looking to maximize my sleep time and hunting time. I don't picture myself getting out the jetboil to make...
We head to CO next month for our first Elk hunt ever. DIY, Archery, OTC. I read a lot about how much hunting pressure there is in Colorado. I want to hear from PA or Ohio whitetail public land hunters. In general, how bad is it really, compared to our normal stomping grounds? I mean... we...
Hey Guys. I've used Leukotape P on my feet in the past, on one of our rucks. I noticed that the adhesive bled through the tape and is now permanently in the fabric of my hiking socks, even after washing several times. I know there are different types of Leukotape. Did I buy the wrong kind...
How much elevation can you comfortably cover in a day? If you plan to park the truck at "X" and hike to glassing spot "Y". How high (or low) are you willing to hike? When you are e-scouting, when do you say "I think thats do'able" or "that elevation gain/loss is too much for me"
I just picked up a Slik Pro 824CF Tripod and SVH-501 head. I really like it a lot. Very strong, super stable. But I cant get over the weight of it. 4.75 lbs assembled... This is my fist spotting scope tripod. I admit I am a noob. Do y'all pack full size tripods like this into the...
PA guy here. Just getting into western hunting. I’m thinking an angled spotting scope would be really helpful. What do you guys recommend for a blue collar guy? I don’t think I’ll use it more than once or twice a year. Don’t want something super cheap, but I also know the high end ones can be...
I've been rucking with some friends on the weekends. Its a great test for your gear. I usually don't have foot issues, but after a 6 mile ruck, my feet will get hot spots on the bottom of the heels as well as the balls of my feet. They are a bit painful, which then makes me walk weird, which...
My wife's office is right next to my hunting room. She happens to love blasting lavender and eucalyptus in her little oil diffuser. Its a hot button topic in our house because I really can't stand it, but it makes her happy. Obviously some of that smell is getting on all my hunting gear. I...
I'm debating getting into doing a little filming. I mainly saddle hunt whitetail and I'm thinking a 360 deg camera would be a great option being as it captures all angles! I also need a camera to take on a western Elk hunt this year. I' picturing something strapped to my backpack strap for...
We are heading to Colorado for archery elk this year. This will my my first Elk hunt ever. I know there are no G-bears where we plan to go, but there are black bears. Do you guys worry about hanging your food away from the campsite when hunting CO?
How do you store your throw line? How do you store your rappel rope? I like the idea of the roll pouch, but not many options out there. Has anyone found anything that's cheap and works? Include pics please. Thank you!
Tried rucking for the first time today. Made me realize that my pack is not good for that amount of weight. It really made my back sore between the shoulder blades. It also felt like there was a lot of pressure on the shoulder straps. I run an Eberlestock X2 and i had a 50lb bag of salt. We...
