Clothing for cold outdoor endurance activities

My favorite lower body combo for cold weather running has been a midweight baselayer (sitka midweight, sitka heavyweight, wrangler work wear etc) under a pair of shorts. Perfect combo for me. For biking I prefer regular jogger type sweat pants and add a baselayer as needed since my legs...

    Pnuma heated baselayer vest

Good callout, just checked and saw that too

    Grid fleece comparison

I haven't played with the R2 at all, @mtwarden have you? If that under armour cold gear quarter zip is the same one that I have with the lofted fleece inside that thing is TOASTY and is more similar to the Sitka traverse coldweather hoody I love so much. I too sweat a little much for the...

Clothing for cold outdoor endurance activities

For cold season running and skiing I've been using a backcountry brand primaloft evolve hoodie that is really really good. Its an ugly bright reddish pink color but I got it for 65$ on sale and it's really similar to my sitka ambient. Slightly wind proof, super breathable. Great fit. Hate hate...

    Which ones work?

    Pnuma heated baselayer vest

Buy one boys. Fricken awesome. I'd buy another if I was worried it will fail. 20 degrees hunting turkeys yesterday and the vest let me dress light and only turn it on while sitting. Get extra batteries.

    Pnuma rain gear

I have the pnuma 3l and honestly it's really good for the money. I was in rain for a couple days straight and it saved my hunt. Quiet, seems durable. Can't recommend it enough

    Tuning my new RIP TKO

I don't mind any easton components. I had great success with the 75 grain stainless half outs in my last build

    Tuning my new RIP TKO

I had issues where they narrow. Bent many of them and gave them up on my old tko build. They're very long and bent really easily even in normal use. Some guys like them but I went to all steel or titanium after that experience

The original victory rip is really dang good

I always hated on the 60 without testing it but I haven't bent one yet or had any issues at all. I might try a 50 grain titanium from podium just for hunting but I might also just send it with the 60s. If this season goes well with them I'll likely buy a couple dozen and just run them for a...

The original victory rip is really dang good

Boys I might just hunt with the standard Rip insert and get some .003s and skip the .001s. I'm having great luck with these arrows and I'm pretty sure I'll use them moving forward. I still have some rip tkos, but I don't really see an advantage in most of my personal use case

The quest for the right mid weight pants

What's a good comparison for them? I've never bought anything from them and I really really like the pants I got. Quality feels amazing and the design is really solid.

The quest for the right mid weight pants

And 83$ right now from sitka.... I honestly always skipped the mountain pants because I love the Dakota for cold weather, I really love the ascent for hot weather and honestly the traverse are like the 308. Nobody sings their praise but everybody either has one or should have one just because...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

After 2 more nights of coyote hunting I can attest the jacket is windproof and the dwr works well for a surprise sleet/snow that I wasn't expecting. I like the bibs more than the jacket, but the high collar of the jacket is fantastic for hiding your face when the wind is blowing hard. For rifle...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

I'd agree with that. Sitka also has more technical design features, but some of them are a bit overkill for specific applications in my opinion

    Upland Pants

That's fair, and I believe cathart quality is just not good anymore

    Upland Pants

I'd agree with this, except for the wranglers work pants I've tried. Haven't got a fray or a hole yet and they just flat out impress me every time. I should really buy more just to have before they quit making them. I do run gaiters on the Bottom for wet days and that helps. Nylon pants that...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

Yeah I totally get that. I might see if I can add a button or a magnet to the collar to keep it down when I'm shooting. First lite sizing is really different by piece to me. Sitka just fits me consistently across the board but I'm kind of all over in FL

Let’s talk temp ranges for layers…

I'm a freeze baby, but I roast when active. So basically I have 2 "sets" of clothing Active hunts, I wear very little. Base layer appropriate for the temp and moisture management goals, (merino in the heat, synthetic in the cold) and a light to mid weight mid layer +/- baselayer bottoms and a...
