My optics setup as of this winter:
Leica 8x42 Ultravid HD plus
Kowa 664 with 30x WA eyepiece
Tripod: Gitzo 1541t with Jim White 2.0 head
Just picked up a pristine set of Meopta 15x56 HD binos for next year-looking forward to using these for mule deer and bighorn sheep scouting.
At some point I...
I’ve got the 7200 as well and used it cinched down for day hunts and never wished I had a smaller bag. If I was doing only day hunts all the time I’d probably get the 2200 bag as well but the 7200 is just fine.
Phenomenal adventure, great storytelling Mark. I enjoyed every minute of that episode today. Looking forward to the follow up “rest of the story” and gear breakdown.

RRS bino cinch elite is a great option for my Leica 8x42 Ultravids. No stud option seemed great if I ever wanted to switch up optics. Packs very flat, and arca plate is perfect for my Jim White 2.0 head.
7200 made it to my rural address in Alberta in one week. Impressive. Very impressed with the rock-solid build of this thing - the 7200 ate up every last throw pillow in our living room. My wife was wondering where they all went to for half an hour haha
Agreed. I went from bigger bag (Sky archer 6200) to smaller bag (Goshawk 4800), and I'm happy to be going back to more CI. Still keeping the Goshawk w Merlin for a lightweight early season bag, but anything mid-late season I will always take the extra space, especially when going solo.
Just picked up a 7200 for late season Alberta hunts! Excited for this pack to show up, Exo has done a great job building the suspense on this one. Didn't need a new pack till 2 weeks ago when I noticed this thread picking up some serious steam and then realized I didn't want to miss this...
I've got a Goshawk 4800, and I interchange several pieces for organization, depending on length of trip.
Lid is good.
Merlin is great (3 different pockets built into it).
1 belt pouch.
For interior organization I use FHF pullouts, might be a bit heavier (500d) but they are solid and have great...
I've got a HM65R, had it for a couple of months now, and really like it. Can't compare it to zebralights as I've never had one, but it's a big time upgrade from my old Petzl. It will work great this spring/fall as a hunting light, I don't mind the rechargeable batteries at all. Just buy a...
I did a Goruck Heavy with one of their packs a couple years ago, so did a lot of training with it leading up to the event. It's a good durable pack for sure, but now I just train with my SO pack and sand. And if you're worried about damaging the pack or frame from sharp edges or plastic, just...
Would like to replace my Kifaru Paratipi with a more efficient tent footprint, like SO Silvertip.
Replaced a Markins ballhead on my tripod with a Jim White 2.0 Panhead, and that was a sweet upgrade.
Possibly replace my AGC harness with Marsupial Harness system.
Possibly replace Helinox Chair...
I've got the Goshawk 4800 w lid and Merlin. At first I found it cumbersome to have both on the Goshawk: too many straps and moving parts going on. So for hunting this coming fall, I figured I'd just run the Merlin, no lid, to reduce the complexity. After playing around with it a bunch...
I use 8x42 Leica Ultravid HD+ and use them here in Southern Albera, where I get a good mix of vast prairie/coulees and mountains just to the west. I wish I could compare them to a good set of 12's just to see the difference, and if it's a big deal. It probably would help a lot in certain...
Small 11 liter rubbermaid totes for my smaller gear (electronics, misc hunting accessories,). Small, medium, and large plano totes for my clothes, backpacks, tents, all other hunting gear. It's a pretty good system, but I'm always trying to tweak it and make it even more efficient/stackable...
Thanks Jared, I've been looking at this sling for a rifle carry option for my Seek Outside Goshawk for several weeks now, and this review confirms what I've been thinking. Looks like the lightweight ticket I've been looking for.
