    Fanatic New Guy from Cali

I'm in the Middle East now. It's about as hot and unfortunately there isn't anything to hunt here. But I spend time in Kentucky whenever I'm in the US.

Do you find technology helpful in staying fit?

I use a Garmin Forerunner 245 for running and walking. The plans generated by the coaches in the app have helped my running, mainly be giving me some structure to my training. Could I do it without the watch or the app? Of course. But this makes it easier, and so I'm more likely to do it.

    prepare for backcountry

Running mostly, weights once a week (full body). I also used to carry heavy packs quite a bit in the Marines. I don't do it as much now outside of hunting or backpacking, but will once in a while.

    Planning My First Antelope Hunt

I've got some good binoculars. None of us has a spotting scope yet. I've been debating about if it's necessary. My inclination is that for a first hunt where we don't care about trophies, that binos should be enough. But I'm open to advice on it. I've got the money to get a lower end one, but...

    Planning My First Antelope Hunt

Yeah. We started planning on it a couple of years ago and it would have been much easier to just go then. But life got in the way. We're all young so finding a year where no one is having a baby or starting a new job has been hard. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips out west. We're...

The 1 Thing You Learned- Bear Hunting

You can't shoot a bear if you won't buy a tag. I went with my brother-in-law in Alaska but I didn't buy a tag since neither of us had been before. He is a resident so it was cheap for him. In one day we saw 17 black bears. We stalked up on the biggest one I've ever seen. And he missed an easy...

    Planning My First Antelope Hunt

I just applied for my first antelope tag after a couple years of research and getting preference points. Two friends and I are applying as a group in Wyoming for a unit that looks doable on public land if you are willing to hike a ways after you leave the roads. This will be my first western...
