NX8 1-8 for general purpose hunting

OP, I think it would make a fine hunting scope for short to medium range. I use LPVOs for my hunting rifles in 300blk, 6mm ARC, 350 legend, 308 Win, 12ga... I hunt in woods with 200 yards being almost unheard of so no need for high magnification. I’m debating getting this scope vs another...

    106 TAP for hunting?

It is good to see that these will group well. I only shoot factory, and the Hornady 6ARC TAP loads have grouped quite poorly compared to their ELD-M, -X and Black in all three of the barrels I’ve shot them through.

    Bluebird house defense

I do the same. I end up killing several dozen each year. I use a shockingly precise (for its cost) suppressed 22lr Savage FV-SR. It’s great practice. I’ve not gotten into air guns, but am starting to get the urge. I can hear their distinct chirp through all the other country noises and my ears...

    300 blackout subs for deer?

GDS on the 300 blk forum has extensive experience, and has shared it on a great thread there. It is a great read chock full of good info. http://www.300blktalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=87186

    Grinding shank meat

Venison shanks get an hour or two heavily smoked at very, very low temps for flavoring. Then, it is into the pot with bone broth where they simmer until they fall apart. Heavenly!

    Sighting in a .22

I do 50 also. Works well for sniping the sparrows that kill bluebirds in our bluebird houses.

Why is it so hard to get my scope level?

Looks intriguing. How does one use it?

    Rokslide Approved LPVO?

I have the Trijicon 1-8 that slowelk mentioned and it is a great optic. Clear, robust, firm tactile adjustments and holds zero well. I also have a Burris RT-6 that, while not on par with the Trijicon, is wonderful, especially considering its low price. Cabelas has them, with a PEPR mount, for...

Got drunk and bought a rifle I don’t need

Don’t feel bad. Some guys get drunk and end up with wife and kids! Can’t help with your question, though.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

If you’re crunched for time, pick up some factory loaded 77 TMKs. Stand1armory has them, and Black Hills loads are available from Bone Frog Gun Club and others. Post up autopsy pics when you slay the hogs and deer.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

It’d be hard to get a fair comparison. A broadhead and a bullet do different things. An arrow kills by cutting. A bullet impact causes damage differently.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Nooooo. You did not ‘miss’ on the first shot. You were intentionally shooting past them to herd them closer. A crafty, cunning move on your part. And the second shot sure anchored the critter.

    “Short” Barrels, why not?

I’m a short distance midwest hunter. I hunt with SBRs. 9 inch 300 Blackout, and 13 inch 6mm ARC and 350 Legend. I also hunt almost exclusively suppressed. The SBR-length barrel plus the suppressor is still a manageable, maneuverable tool. For me, as long as I can put my bullet on target with...

Recommendations for AR15's in 6mm ARC? Anyone using one?

Are you looking at factory or a home-built? I built mine (an 18” Odin Works barrel and a 13” Bartlein barrel). If you build, plan to spend money on a really good barrel, optic, and trigger. The rest is wayyy less important. I shoot only factory ammo. In my rifles, the factory ELD-M and ELD-X...

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

grfox92, Not a bad start. Add a Larue MBT, better scope and some TMKs and you’re all set!

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

Genius. But swap the M-Lok for ARCA and your groups will shrink by 50%.

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I see this in myself. My groups tend to gain size as I move from 22lr, to 308 Win to 300 Mag. Three rounds that they count in a group. But they shoot four and dismiss the ‘flier’ as the ‘clean, cold bore’ shot.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

I know I’ve seen it in here but can’t remember. What impact velocity am I needing with the 77 gr TMK? I might have to take my 10” Noveske into a rifle area for deer next year.

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

Well, I made it through this thread and the 223 thread. My thanks to all those who made constructive posts. It was informative and it is costing me money. While I don’t see myself hunting deer with any of my 5.56/223s, I feel compelled nonetheless to order a few boxes of Black Hills 5.56...

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Black Hill 5.56 77gr TMK in stock at Bone Frog. Honestly, I should buy some. But I don’t see me hunting with 223/5.56 anytime so you all might as well clean them out of their stock! https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/products/5-56-77gr-black-hills-tipped-match-king-tmk-d556n19
