    Alpacka Raft System

I've owned a Yak and a couple of Llama's. I wouldn't go that small for hunting, particularly if you're going to be doing moving water in colder weather. Adding your meat, head and trophy antlers could really bog you down. A smaller boat means you'll need to carry more immersion clothing too...

    Packraft alternative maybe?

Looks like it would be a lot of fun to pull out of the car trunk and use. It probably tracks much better than a packraft too. I'd be skeptical of the longevity of those plastic creases, and carrying a packraft is much lighter.

    Basic Gear List Advice

I came into hunting later in life, after doing a fair amount of backpacking and canoe camping. I learned early on that spending some money to reduce significant amounts of weight was the right move. I purchased a WM Alpinlite years ago - it saved me 2.5 lbs over what I had been using and it's...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

If you cut off the top half of a one gallon milk jug it makes a great, lightweight wash basin. My cookset and reflectix cozy nest inside perfectly.

    Daypack recommendations...

Hill People Gear make a variety of nice packs. I'm partial to the Aston House Backcountry as a very versatile daypack. (The capture flap really extends its capability as a utility pack for shed hunting, for example.) Their shoulder harness is easily adjustable to meet torso length.

    2019 Saskatchewan Whitetail

Nicely done Saskabush. I also had some luck not too far from the Borden bridge, over the North Saskatchewan River. Nothing like yours but it's making for some great suppers.

    Battle River Cree Outfitters Saskatchewan

One of my former students runs "Lost Creek Outfitters" in north east Saskatchewan. They're a good outfit, but you're spoiled for choices in Saskatchewan.

    Pack for hunting and travel

The best bag to use for both purposes is a Hill People Gear Aston House Backcountry bag. It's about 46 litres in size - works perfectly as a carry on bag, and comes in a variety of colors. I used mine for whitetail season in November and it will hold plenty for a cold Saskatchewan day hunt...

    Adding guy-out points

I've owned one of those for maybe 12 years - they used to be the easiest pyramid tent to get in Canada. After the first season of using it in the windy prairies I added tie out points on every seam, about a third of the way up. I'd recommend a loop of elastic shock cord between the tie out and...

    titanium elbow stove pipe?

Bonjour Reaper - I've never seen a titanium stove pipe elbow. Even my Four Dog stove came with an elbow made from galvanized steel.

Black Diamond Beta Light tent vs other options

I have the BD Megamid, not the Beta Light, and the construction is exceptional. I've used it a few times per year for the last 10 years and it's still in excellent shape. I can't recommend it enough. The blue-grey color isn't terrible in real life. I'm not sure what the head room in a Beta...

    Backpacks suggestions for big guys

I'll put a plug in for the SeekOutside packs. A Revolution frame with 4" extensions fits me like a glove. I'm 6'2" and wear a 48" tall jacket. Might be worth the call.

    Larger tent advice please

I've never found anything better than a GoLite Shangri-La 5. I know they've been reissued under a different name so they're still available. The bugs in northern Saskatchewan are equally as bad as what you'd get in Alaska, so the inner net is essential. We've also just thrown up the outer...

If you watch the Gearswap site on MEC there are often Tarptents and other shelters in for a decent price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
