    Has your dog been injured?

Porcupine quills once, other dogs- 3 times, and one very expensive encounter with a nutria on a Sunday afternoon 2 hours from the emergency vet.

    Big Binocular Options

I went with the Meopta Meostar 15x56 B1 Hd. This was my first set of higher end glass so maybe I don’t have much to compare to, but they are awesome. Clear and crisp. I couldn’t believe what became visible to me when I made the step up. And price wise I am not sure you can do much better.

Tell me about this .303 British

Mechanical is a good way of putting it. The bolt is relatively smooth but still it feels a bit like shifting a three speed on the column truck. The bullet has killed all manner of game, including everything on the African continent, despite weird configurations and lackluster ballistics. My...

Tell me about this .303 British

What is the primary detriment to their popularity? The mass production element? The action is definitely clunky but seems solid and relatively smooth.

Tell me about this .303 British

This rifle is quite a bit older than I thought. Is there any chance that it was fitted with this stock at the factory? Or is that definitely an aftermarket? There is a pretty strong discussion going in another thread about modifying a mode70. Obviously this is a very different rifle but I wonder...

Thanks, that’s more than I had.

Tell me about this .303 British

I picked this rifle up several years ago when I was enamored with the idea of sporterizing a military rifle of some sort The .303 seemed like a cool option it’s supposed to be a Winchester but it’s not stamped. It has Bishop on the butt plate and .303 Nitro proof on the barrel with not much...

    East of the Mississippi

Phelps lake, creswell, NC. Pettigrew state park and a massive NWR nearby. Contact Conman’s guide services for information and lodging. Catch bass and panfish. Ride around and look at the biggest black bears anywhere and do a day trip to the outer banks.

    Give up on AZ?

I felt the exact same way for years until my older sister moved there permanently. It is expensive. Unfortunately she doesn’t live in good hunting country but now I have another excuse to go visit ( or to go hunting, depending on who’s asking).

Nature Conservancy and the Western Solar Project

I’m genuinely curious about their status as biggest landowner. They are big, but are they really that big?

Nature Conservancy and the Western Solar Project

It seems you overlooked my use of the word “past” as well as my acknowledgment that the organization may be headed in the wrong direction.

Nature Conservancy and the Western Solar Project

That’s disappointing. The Nature Conservancy has indeed been a good group in this past. Plenty of liberal ideologies but they have protected plenty of nice acreage here in NC. Much of their land is leased to hunting clubs or enrolled in game lands. And some of those clubs engage in the most...

Thoughts on purchasing hunting land in CO

The farm lease should be just as straightforward as a ranch lease, maybe even more so. There is $X.00/acre/year with specific terms that you both agree to. If it’s halfway decent land the price per acre should be better than ranch leasing, and you don’t have to deal with fences. Potential tax...

Thoughts on purchasing hunting land in CO

I tend to agree with pretty much everything that has been said. That’s a big enough piece of land to enjoy and pass down. In the right spot it can be enough to hold whitetails or possibly a few mule deer. Maybe a couple of turkeys and a covey of quail. Depending upon your location other big game...

What was your first western hunt - especially if from East of the Mississippi

Technically it was Saskatchewan duck hunting that first got me west of the Mississippi and I loved it. But for big game it was November 2001. For a time we were not even sure we would be able to fly with everything that was going on. A friend had gone to eastern Wyoming for a whitetail hunt the...

    Hot Sauce Recommendation?

Another vote for Texas Pete. It’s my “daily driver “ hot sauce. Beyond that you can’t go wrong with anything by Marie Sharp’s. It captures the flavor of habanero without undue heat ( unless you want it). I’ve liked all of them including the orange and grapefruit habanero sauces. Cholula, as...

No more Arizona governor tag for BHS ?

At first glance it seems like a great idea to me. I may get a shot at it this way. It’s a foregone conclusion that I will never score that tag via auction.

    FNG from NC

Hey there! I don’t spend much time bear hunting anymore, and fortunately my area doesn’t have many pigs. They can be fun but most of us around here don’t want to see them establish. We’re eager to take them out when they show up. I do a good bit of deer hunting as well as ducks, turkeys, small...

    Waterfowl Shoulder Mounts.

I like the swan mounts done like this better than the ducks. They carry it down to where the breast starts, giving it more of a “base.” And with swans being so big it actually makes a manageable trophy.
