    Experience with RRS Tripod Setups

I had the TFC-14 and bh-30 or BPC-16, as the Anvil was a crazy wait at the time. I enjoyed the setup for glassing, but shooting never felt stable, even in the seated position. My plan was to add a 24 or 34 along with the Anvil, but when the Ascend came out I swapped to that instead, as I...

Anyone ever strap children to their pack frame?

Started with the Osprey strapped to my Kifaru frame and then moved it to my Seek Outside frame, which I felt carried it better. Since then I've moved to placing them in one of the large SO bags with an internal load shelf and gear strategically placed under/around them. They seem to prefer this...

    Floor-less tipi secondary protection option?

Borah Gear hybrid bivy is what I use most of the time. If it'll be close or below freezing, I have a sheet of foam from Seek Outside that I also use as a drop sheet, not as durable as tyvek, but provides a thermal break and is big enough to sit on. I also have an inner liner, but that only...

    what arctery'x gear for hunting?

Arcteryx does have their LEAF division, which has camo. They have great equipment, but most of the outerwear and rain gear is LOUD! The Naga hoody is an outstanding piece. I'd pass on their packs and footwear for hunting.

    Reloading Bench Layout

I prefer my bench at 42", and I'm 6'. You could use one of those Inline riser plates to get to whatever height you're comfortable with. I'd personally recommend clamping tools to the bench for now and figure out what works for your process that you develop. I also keep my A&D on a separate...

    Stone Glacier Child Carrier

I had my Poco on my Seek frame and my Kifaru frame. There's a ton of different methods to strap them together. A few times I also had the 3 year old standing on the Poco kick stand + holding on/ a safety strap around him. That's about as close as I've managed to simulating a sheep + camp...

Hunting Efficiently with RedKettle, give a welcome & win!

Welcome to Rokslide. I was out bear hunting yesterday and was missing a sling, haven't used one in a few years. Was just starting to look for one and yours is already in the lead.

    Cimarron screen or no?

No screen. As said above, if you have it high enough off the ground for decent ventilation in warm climates, you'll have mosquitoes coming under anyways. I use an ultralight bug bivy when I'm solo and a full nest with the kids.

    Cartridge options

270win with a well placed shot will be plenty. If it's your first bear hunt, spend a little time researching where to shoot them (its further back then most deer hunters naturally aim). I personally shoot copper bullets, but anything that is stout enough to exit should be good enough. Bear's...

    Mid-Layer Shootout Review ***Updated 2/18/23***

If you can find a Patagonia Levitation hoody, I'd definitely suggest you add that to the list. It is by far the best Mid-layer I've ever owned. I cant find anything that beats it. But I haven't really looked in a few years, so it'll be curious to see how these new models rate. I like the sound...

    Bedliner paint jobs

I've seen a couple Sprinter vans locally that have had Line-X Ultra sprayed onto them. It is a formulation that is specific for coating vehicles. It is a very impressive finish, significantly lighter then dedicated Bedliner material. If I don't receive my new van soon (ordered it 16 months ago)...

anyone have field experience with the Spartan Davros pro head for glassing and shooting?

I used the original davros head and the light duty optics adapter. This was before the Pro head and HD optics adapter were available. I didn't love the system, it was ok, but only ok. As I was trying the system out without trying to invest a ton, I only used the surface adapters for the...

Bino Bandit Eye Piece Shield-Is this a legit product?

I like them when higher up in the mountains, in the alpine, when more exposed to the sun. When hunting in the forest I find them to be more hassle then they are worth. I also have the Scope Bandit for my spotting scope and have the same opinion of it. I definitely wouldn't use them if I wasn't...

Scope Throw Levers, Yes or No?

I'm a big fan of the throw levers on my NF optics, wasn't a huge fan of some of the others I tried, but they were 1/2 the height of the NF lever and didn't provide enough leverage. I currently only have lower powered scopes and use them at either 2x or 10x zoom, so always making large...

    Random observation- NL Pure

I could see the ergonomics of the NL series not working for some people. I tried them several times at shops and disliked the ergonomics and didn't feel the glass was enough of a jump from my EL'S to justify the expenditure. Last summer a friend showed up with a pair of 10x42NL's and we played...

    Berger Elite hunter

I've been happy with the Elite Hunter in several different calibers, including the 6.5mm in a 260rem. Shot several smaller black bear and blacktails with them. Biggest thing with the Bergers is to respect their limitations, shoot for soft tissue and dont expect them to break bone.
