    AG Composites Tikka Stock Review

Justin, What powder do you use in your loads? Would think that such a short barrel would not be able to burn the powder from a 6.5-06AI. Cool looking rifle, though. Some day, I'd like to get one of those stocks for my TIkka.

Would love some educated opinions on this quirky load...

Yes, but I know the bullet is moving faster than that. I'm curious if anyone can see another possible explanation?

Would love some educated opinions on this quirky load...

Hi all, I'd appreciate some more opinions on this load I'm working up and why it behaves as it does. The rifle is a Tikka T3x in 7mm-08. It's brand new and only has about 70-80 rounds down the pipe. I'm shooting 140 E tips with Varget, at about 2725fps ( measured with Chrony). The scope is...

    Is nothing sacred

I think the only way to beat this problem is to hunt where you could tell everyone and they still wouldn't go there...

    I've killed 2: 250 and 300 yards

    Shipping meat home

Like others, I just use the coolers as checked bags on the plane. I fly Southwest, so my gear is free and if I have coolers for the ride home, they're 75 bucks each. Shipping is really expensive (probably 600-1000 bucks). I try to pick up the meat from the processor that day, put it in...

7mm-08 users, what are your loads for elk?

The only elk I've killed with my 7mm-08 fell to a 150 accubond LR. It did the job just fine, but wouldn't be my first choice again (it's a little on the soft side). At this point, I'm shooting a 140 e tip, but haven't had the opportunity to use it on an elk, yet. Last year, I used 140...

    Unit 48 Wyoming

Hi all, If there's anyone out there who has hunted unit 48 in the recent past, I'd love the chance to pick your brain a little (could be by phone, or pm). My 12 year old son drew the type 6 tag as a backup. I understand it's a difficult hunt and I'd love to hear the details so that we can...

    Remington's Core-lokt ammo

I still use the roundnose 180's in my .30-06 brush gun. I have also found that velocities are slower than expected. About 2500 from a 22" barrel.

    6.5 creedmoor vs 7mm-08 vs 25-06

I'd choose the 7mm-08. Way more bullet weight range than the other two. I'm sure the 6.5 CM is a great round, but I think I'd rather have a .260...

Gun Scope and Factory Ammo out to 800 yards under $1200

I don't think this will be too difficult. While it's no beauty, I'd be tempted to try a TC Venture. I'm really impressed with the accuracy I'm seeing from the one I got my kids. During barrel break-in, the box of Federal Fusions I got was printing well under an inch; 5/8" on one group. If...

    First time antelope hunter!

Yes. Knowing which roads are open to you is key. Access is your biggest challenge. Talk to fish and game employees in the area, talk to highway superintendants, etc. Also find out if it's legal to hop corners in that particular county of that particular state. Pick a unit that has at least...

    Thick brush hunting?

I would agree with this. Don't start too aggressively, but don't rule out still hunting when time's getting short. I still hunted up a shot opportunity this year, in a thick bedding area by just moving slowly and staying aware. But watch out for those Lodge Pole Pines, they have a habit of...

    Operation AZ elk drop'er

If you're a bit rusty with rifles and have been mostly bow hunting, you may not want to worry too much about long shots. Shooting at 400, or 500 yards isn't easy and takes a lot of practice, in my opinion. I find anything over 300 yards to be pretty challenging, especially if you're in the...

    7mm-08 loads

If I had a nickle for every time I've heard this, I could buy a new rifle. I've seen cross sections showing that the 120 has a significantly thicker jacket than the 140, or 150. It's a tough little bullet!

    7mm-08 loads

I couldn't get mine to like the 140 ttsx, or the 145 lrx. Right now, I'm playing with the 140 accubond, but for elk hunting in the timber, I might be tempted to use this load, which I took elk hunting last year: 160 accubond over 44 grains IMR 4350 @ 2.8" (Norma case, WLR) From my 22" barrel...

Another which caliber question... or chuck it all in?

I don't want to stand in the way of your new rifle, but unless you're looking to shoot things out in the 500+ yard range, I'd say you're covered already. I'd use a 6.5 c, or a .30-06 for just about any critter in North America. I love new rifles too, though... If I were going to get a mountain...
