So yesterday I was messing around at 60 yds with both field points and fixed blade heads of both 100 and 125 grains. I'm interested in maybe switching to 125's and wanted to do some testing. Anyway, I was expecting a drop of several inches at 60 yds with the 125 grain heads. However, the 125's hit exactly with my 100 gr heads. I found this confusing as I didn't expect this. Total arrow weight with the 100s was 453, compared to 478 with the 125's. Shooting black eagle spartan 300's at 28.5 inches with a 30 gr brass insert weight onto the insert. Anyone seen anything like this or am I wrong in expecting a drop by adding 25 grains??

What draw weight and length do you have? That is kind of curious.

Interesting...curious what folks say. I have the same bow specs and wanted to try 125's, but wasn't crazy about buying more broadheads to only test them.

Me either. My father in law shoots 125's so I borrowed a bunch of his and we both shot at 60 yesterday. He's perplexed as well. I've always heard about 6 fps difference for 25 grains but who knows. I just finished paper tuning and sighting in so I wasn't crazy about switching necessarily. But if I don't have to sight in for some reason I'd likely do it. Would definitely gain some foc and momentum.

The dynamics say the faster lighter arrow will decelarate quicker than the slower heavier one...

FWIW, most parameters matter little until you have drastic changes in arrow weight and/or fiddle with draw length (as in 10 fps for every inch of DL).

25 grains is only like 7fps worth of speed loss.......not a big deal. But at 60+ there should be a slight difference in where they hit relative to your 100's. Between 100's and 125's I only see an inch or so difference at 60.

So I just changed out my arrows and increased by almost 100 grains total weight. I was blown away when my 20 & 30 yard pins didn't change? 30 is the max I can shoot in my yard, but I'm expecting a big difference when I get out to 60-70-80.

Sounds right. Not enough weight change to make that much of a difference. I switched arrows a few years ago and the newer ones were about 25 grains heavier. I didn't have to change my pins and could shoot them interchangeably.

You will see a noticeable difference at 40 and a big difference at 50.

Maybe one setup has more energy loss than the other. It would be interesting to chronograph and compare speeds. I'm getting 8 fps slower when adding 25 grains. I've tried this with 2 arrow types.

25g....Most folks can't tell the difference at bowhunting distances 30,40....but at 60 you should see it.

Of course there will be more of a difference between a guy shooting a 380gr arrow vs my 500gr.

Keep in mind, as you increase arrow weight, it absorbs more of your bows energy......so thats a small part of it.

Yeah I would think at 60 and beyond I'd see some drop. I'll have to chrono and compare. The 25 gr increase obviously has to slow it down, but yes maybe it lies somewhere with increased energy.

It also depends on what your expectations/capabilities are. What are your group sizes at 60 yards? If your groups average 6" it's hard to tell the difference between you and the 100 vs 125 if they're all still within that grouping.
