CFE 223 is a great powder for the 7mm-08. Any one run StaBall 6.5 yet? For a .270 and '06 it's tops with all bullet weights from light to heavy. Better than Superformance in the '06 which has been the best performing (speed-wise) powder for years.

If there's case volume to handle the StaBall 6.5 with the 120 TTSX in the 7mm-08, it's good for another 50 and a few fps based on published Hodgdon data over CFE223. A guy could extrapolate and work up loads for the 120 TTSX pretty easily.

JAT for getting max velocity out of the 120 TTSX in the 7mm-08.

Update on my CFE 223 and 120 TTSX - a steady 3140 fps at just 46 grains (Barnes lists 48.4 as max) under the 120 TTSX, and plenty accurate. 3/4" MOA at the 95 degree range today, with only a minute or two between shots. That'll play.

I have no reason to try more than 46 grains.

3140 fps at the elevation I normally hunt gives me more than 2200 fps and 1500 ft. lbs. out to 500 yards which is farther than I am willing to shoot.

Getting 3050 with 131 hammer hunters over 51 grains of Staball 6.5. rifle is a 24" Vanguard

Unfortunately we were unable to get any field results on elk last year. Your load is very similar to mine. I'd love to see your results after hunting season. Good luck this year!

Data from Barnes says max for the 120ttsx and CFE223 is 48.4 grains (compressed)

For velocity they claim 3196 fps from a 24” barrel.

I stopped just under that and got great accuracy, but I don’t have any velocity info from my shorter (16.5”-20”) barrels.
Gonna resurrect this old thread one more time.

I'm getting 3150 out of a 22" Montana, and just under 1" accuracy, with a 120TTSX over 47.5 CFE223. Still some wiggle to get to max, but I've been happy for years with the load, as is. I'll be taking it to Alberta in Oct., for a moose hunt.

@Newtosavage
Funny...I've experienced the same thing as you with the 120TTSXs...2 real tight, and 1 flyer 1/2-3/4" out.
