Got in on the 6.5 Tikka deal (dont need it but too cheap not to). Anyway, seems like most guys are trying to push the heavier stuff with the creedmoor? 140+ grain pills. i haven't run the numbers yet, but i'd think you would have to be shooting a real long way for the 140+ stuff to out shine a 130/135 at creedmoor velocities. thoughts?

I haven't shot the 140's, but will be shootig the 130 Accubond at anything from antelope, deer to elk. My reason is I don't like the slower velocity with the heavier bullets.

I’m shooting the factory 143eldx. I’m not really concerned with the numbers it’s more that my gun is shooting right around 1/2moa. No need to reload or try anything else, for me that is.

My Tikka loves the 143 ELDX. Devastating on 2 mule deer this year. One at 80 yards one at 499.

A little more speed but same difference, I have been shooting 130s in my saum for a few years and loving the flatter tradjectory they give me. If you can find some 130 jlk they have an advertised bc of .620 and very short bearing surface. I am running them at 3288 from my 24” barrel 6.5saum

Those 130 JLKs are hard to beat. It sounds like the JLK equipment/design/name was purchased by someone who is hoping to be making and selling JLKs again. I hope it all works out!

per the OP, 140 of equal form factor will outperform a 130 in wind deflection at all ranges but its paid for in incrementally more drop and recoil. The numbers between a 130 AR hybrid vs 140 hybrid in my x47 were close enough out to ranges i typically shot that I just picked the one that shot best.

About the same energy, but greater impact momentum and greater sectional density on the heavier bullet. No brainer - any of them will do the job, but 140+ have the upper hand on 130’s.

IMO it depends on bullet construction...I would take a well constructed lighter bullet over a poorly constructed heavy bullet. Also, what are you targeting?

I'm in the same boat as you on this. I load for my 30 Nos and 7 Mag, but the 6.5 Creed with the 143 ELDX factory is just so easy and accurate.

Been shooting the 143’s but have loaded a few A tips in both grains available but haven’t shot em yet.

Buy a couple boxes of each. Go with the one that shoots the best. The difference is small and both should work fine. Once I find a 1/2 moa load I stop load dev. I have too many hours chasing the last little bit during load development on a hunting rifle that I don't take extremely long shots with.

Here are some basics numbers from Strelok. The lighter bullet is a bit faster and shoots a bit flatter. However, it does have less energy. Shoot which ever your rifle prefers.

What about wind deflection? You can always make a lighter bullet look good with drop charts.

Here is a continuation of my example since you asked about wind.

129 Gr ABLR vs 143 Gr ELD-X with a 10 MPH crosswind and 200 yard zero
100 yards: 0.5” vs 0.5” —> Tie
200 yards: 2.2” vs 2.2” —> Tie
300 yards: 5.2” vs 5.1" —> 143 gr ELD-X wins by 0.1”
400 yards: 9.5” vs 9.2” —> 143 gr ELD-X wins by 0.2”
500 yards: 15.3” vs 14.8” —> 143 gr ELD-X wins by 0.5”
600 yards: 22.7” vs 21.9” —> 143 gr ELD-X wins by 0.8”
700 yards: 32.0” vs 30.8” —> 143 gr ELD-X wins by 1.2”
800 yards: 43.2” vs 41.4” —> 143 gr ELD-X wins by 1.8”

Here is an extreme example. At 50 MPH and 800 yards, the 129 gr ABLR deflects 216.1" vs the 143 gr ELD-X deflects 207.3". The 143 gr ELD-X wins by 8.8".

There are lots of free ballistics calculators available as well as ammo options so feel free to run the numbers yourself.
