.166 outsert system

What is everyone’s go to aftermarket components for .166 arrows? I got 2 dozen VAP 300s a few weeks ago and between TAC and other 3D shoots, I have bent a considerable amount of the outserts potentially even a full dozens worth at this point. These are the 50 gr aluminums and they have bent even after hitting the stiff plastic within the 3D targets. I am considering the 75 grain stainless steels from CMI but I figured someone here may have more experience than I do. I shot the 95 grain Victory inserts for multiple years with minimal bending issues but these 50 grainers are brittle. Anyone got some advice?

Bite the bullet and either:

A) replace your current field points/broadheads with 6-40 thread (“Deep Six”) FP/BH so you can use a Deep Six hidden insert (HIT) in your .166 arrows and avoid outserts altogether

B) replace your current arrows with .204 shafts so you can use an 8-32 thread HIT and keep using your current FP/BH

C) abandon skinny arrows altogether and avoid the component conundrum they present

I'm using the 75gr steel/alum from Easton on my 4mms. But only for field points (and I've still bent a couple). Broadheads are glue-ins. I've even considered glue in field points.

I do prefer .204 arrows, but I got a couple dozen of the .166 from my reps (Easton and Altra) so I'm giving them a go this year.

The Altra system is intended to be disposable/replaceable.
Well, they are VERY disposable 😂 I disposed of mine before putting them on (tried one just to verify) I have almost 2 dozen altra outserts for 300’s if anyone wants them

I think deep 6/glue in is the way, and possibly titanium half outs. I have some built with the titanium half outs and they are fine so far, but too early to say anything definitive

I’m using IW Snyder core field points, and titanium half outs and glue in for broadhead

Mighty Mouse hit the nail on the head.

Outserts just suck.

For the price it costs to build a dozen reliable 4mm shafts, you could build two or 3 dozen reliable 5mm shafts or 4 or 5 dozen reliable 6.5 mm shafts. The archery industry is the only winner in 4mm arrows.

Seems what I worried about is true. I thought about getting Axis instead when I bought these but I really like the 4mm. I wish QAD did glue in points. Iron wills are just too expensive for me at this moment

I ran into a lot of issues with factory options until I tried the 4mm Titanium inserts from Easton. They definitely aren't cheap, but worth it when I consider the money spent on bent inserts and hassle. Haven't had one bend yet and I am still able to use the 8-32 threaded points/broadheads.

I can’t disagree

I decided to revisit 166’s this year and like last time, I’m going to fire them when I run out, because it’s still more expensive and more screwing around vs 5mm

My next arrows will be back to 5mm and I’m going to treat everything like glue in, hot melt heads to HITs and then hot melt the whole thing in the shaft. I haven’t even started hunting with my 166’s and I’m already tired of them. I knew better

I think they should come with an extra 6+ of the collar portion. I found them to be more durable than the pierce and ethics systems. The upside though is being able to unscrew the collar and replace to get a straight point again.

If you want a bunch of extras let me know, I have close to 2 dozen that I will never use

Lot's to say here - long and short here:
1) If you want to run a standard broadhead what you need is the .238 Contact Archery Titanium Component at 54 grains. Add an internal carbon tube for max durability. You can find them through firenock or cheap online like ebay.
2) Run glue in points for practice like 3d at the same weight. This is the cheapest option as you can replace. Then run the more expensive durable options for hunting.

Titanium is the best solution I've found for .166 arrow components and standard threads. Steel is too heavy for my liking and some aren't even as strong as 7075 T6 aluminum. Nexxus titanium is indestructible but tough to get in the states now. Podium Archer has some I'm sure are good but spendy. Same for Ethics titanium.

Glue in is the "best" option then Deep Six but you're limited so I avoid them generally. Trifecta, Evolution, Shwacker LRP, Thorn, Iron Will Synder Core, Thrive Broadheads, Valykrie and maybe another I'm missing.

I believe Ethics offers an outsert system for .166 arrow systems.

I used their .204 System and it was pretty rock solid if a bit heavier than I want today.
They do. For their aluminum it's 6061 though and really isn't great. Their steel is just ok 303 series.

See below list of other arrows that might fit your shafts. I recommend using mic to your VAP to ensure what OD is best.

Is that insert seriously 86.04 for 1? :ROFLMAO:
