17B and season dates... Responding to calls?

So I’m pretty close to pulling the trigger on a 2022 hunt. I see where 17B season is only 10 days and ends on the 15th. When I was looking at other areas I had always been focused on the last 10 days of season for best call response.

Would you plan to do much calling during 17B season, or just sit quiet for most of it?

This is the perfect time of the year to call. Both brush thrashing and cow calling should be effective

Okay. Not sure why, but I had in back of my mind late September in most of Ak was best.

After the 15th, the big bulls will already have their harems and only the satellite bulls, too small to compete, will respond.

I have hunted 17 and found the dates of Sept 5-15 to be a little too early for calling. Later season hunts, especially the last 10 days of September, were much better for getting bulls to respond and come in from my experience.

You might be successfull calling in 17 but I would plan to do more spot and stalk.

Hmmmm. Well that’s not what I’m looking to hear.
