I’ve been holding off posting anything about this rifle because even I didn’t know if this was a good idea. Apparently I’m on to something.

I picked up this rifle from a hardware store for a good deal and wanted to see if I could make a short, handy lightweight rifle. I know what your thinking, why a .270? Well I have reloading components coming out my ears for .270. Looks like I got lucky on this one.

I removed the 8 oz of gel from the stock, had the barrel cut to 18.5” and threaded for my suppressor. To me the the biggest gamble was loosing too much velocity at 18.5”. Today I got to shoot it for the first time and I was shocked by the results. 150 SSTs at 2874fps with an ES of 5fps is impressive to say the least. Looks like it’s gonna be a solid MOA rifle or better. When I get time to shoot for groups, I will update this post.

I dig it. What are they specs on the threading/can attachment? Where you able to thread it to 5/8-24 and still have enough shoulder? What can is that?

The bare rifle ended up weighing 5lbs 0oz after removing the gel from the stock and cutting the barrel. I had the barrel threaded 1/2-28 and I’m using a 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adapter for my Silencerco Harvester. At 18.5” the barrel is .600” leaving .100” shoulder for the adapter.

Rifle 80oz (5lbs)
Scope 12oz
Harvester 12oz
Adapter 2oz
Rings 2oz
Total 108oz (6lbs 12oz)

What scope are you running? You really have me thinking now. I've got a ton of 270 reloading components.

Cerakote is one of my favorite parts of putting together a new rifle.

Parts fresh out of the blast cabinet!

I have been going back and forth cutting my .270 Fieldcraft, especially since I have a 6.5 prc 18” being built but I think I will. All accounts it seems to maintain velocity better than most.

All back together this morning. Now I can stretch it out and see how well it shoots. Cerakote colors are Tungsten on metal and scope, stock and suppressor are a custom color that I make.
