I think more and more guys are leaning towards less point building and hunting more often. The only trade of is, a person won’t be successful every year and you likely won’t be killing giants, but.....who really cares, at least your out in the hills!

I guess you have to define “giants”. My goal is always a 6 point bull. A 280-300 incher is a good bull. A giant to lots of hunters too. And you CAN BE SUCCESSFUL EVERY YEAR! I’m 21 years straight on public land. Only 3 were cows too. To me it’s all about learning your area. That and not slacking. If you have learned where elk like to hang out and you get your butt up early and work hard there’s no reason at all you can’t punch your tags consistently. If you pick your spot with care there’s always a chance of a 330 plus bull too. If you just bank points your chance of an empty freezer is right around 100% right. I guess it’s also about your goals. I like killing elk. But I love hunting them just as much.
