Twenty-three years of applying for Idaho sheep, some experience gained on the way, a lot of helpful advice from several other people, the sweat of my brother and a few really, really good friends, and more than a few miles on my boots paid off with this nine year old ram.

I used a LH Tikka T3X SL in 6.5 CM, topped with a 3-9 SWFA scope and loaded with 147 Hornady ELD-Ms. The shot was at 417 yds off my crossed trekking poles with my Kifaru Reckoning pack under the buttstock.

Thank you to everyone who helped!

What an awesome accomplishment. I think they are going to have to split up the best sheep photo contest into thin horns and bighorns. Some great rams an pics of both. I’m jealous of all of you!

Just to keep the sheep meat-pole thread going - took this free-range Texas Aoudad a few months back via crossbow. It was a very memorable hunt and I had a blast. This old boy was still the boss and since it was “that time of year” we enjoyed the special treat of getting a few long-distance glimpses of him “defending the title.” He was also a much physically bigger critter than we thought. To me, his chaps were the real trophy, especially for a free-range Ram.

Just got back from our desert hunt. Only nonresident tag in CO and my dad drew it. Hundreds of hours of research and 12 days of scouting. Turned out to be a really good ram for the unit. 35”x14.5”. 7yr old. I’m very relieved...heavy tag to have in our pocket! Amazing challenging hunt.

That’s a beauty !

Unfortunately California Bighorns have to compete with Rockies in the B&C records book but SCI recognizes California Bighorns as a separate subspecies and he is the new #3 in the world with SCI.
I also don't think he would have survived another winter with zero body fat and poor teeth.

Congrats! Those are the best ones. Taken ethically just before they had to die nature’s often painful death.

I’ve been off this site for a while, but here are two pics of my Colorado sheep from this September. I feel exceptionally fortunate to have only waited 10 years to draw this tag and to have had a great friend to hunt with me. Maybe the future holds another sheep hunt!
