2020 Oregon Elk [ cow ] season August 1st

To be Honest I haven't even seen my muzzle loader this year until today . Gonna dry fire it and load it for tomorrow morning . It was been such a constant gun,, shoots good first shot until I cant get another one done the bore . Knight Ultra Lite dang good gun. Been elk scouting on Ranch and have picked out a nice dry cow already ,,These are wild from Rancher casing off his land so if they see or smell you they are running . Last year was great , had a 144 yard kill shot on a collard cow plus tagged ear 5year old dry cow, Gonna be 95 degrees so hope to be at meat cooler buy no later than 9:30 am . We in the past made a big deal with camping there but driving 35 minutes from home aint camping .. Now we will see what really happens tomorrow morning..

So far they are out smarting us . Winds and other private lands stop getting down wind.

temps 90+ and youth hunters, out of the way.. We moved in Al's group 3 of them have Harvested 2 elk , Bob's [me] group [4] of us Have harvested 1 . It was a cool thing my wife's brother had not on his own harvested one ,He has now . It wasn't pretty but he got the job done. At last light the elk were coming into the meadow , He picked a dry cow at 75 yards and squeezed the trigger ,It was a good hard hit and the way she was acting I felt she would be going down soon. She was making tiny steps and putting her nose to the ground ,then short step , Light was running out 30 minutes had passed she was out of range and finally went down . I went back to pickup to get 4 wheeler , brother in law made slow stock to find his elk . I unloaded 4 wheeler and got a call he couldn't find her in the waist high grass , I headed out there on 4wheeler looking about were I felt elk went down . oh did I mention I forgot my muzzle loader at pick up. I drove up on her in the tall grass . called brother in law he came over and shot her, Very late night got to bed 2:20 am

Pics or it didn't happen ,, At that time of night we roll elk up on my 4 wheeler ramp in back of pick up set water sprinkler on it cover with tarp , nice a clean and cooled off headed to walk in cooler next morning
