Next year I will be going on a drop camp hunt in Colorado - 2nd archery season. I am nearing completion of acquiring all the gear I believe I need for the hunt. If you could, please evaluate my gear list and let me know of any holes that you see or things that I should change. The camp will have a wrangler to prepare meals for us. If we kill, we must get the meat to an area easily accessible to a horse. I have been working on accumulating gear for the last two years. I have taken my fitness levels to being in the best shape that I have ever been in and have lost 29lbs this year. I have been drawn for a coastal Georgia hog hunt this year and plan to use it as a practice run for my gear. I have spent a lot of time on this website over the last two years and have learned a great deal. After this hunt I plan to start doing camping hunts in North Georgia for bear as well as other species out west and in the midwest. Thanks in advance.

You doubled up and tripled up on a few things. You can wash socks and underwear
May want to add a phone/camera to the Electronics list

Everything looks good but I agree with cnelk, you have a lot of doubled clothing. I would have it available at the truck but I wouldn't put it all in my pack unless the weather looked ugly. I also put in another vote for the spot hogg hunter series. I went from a 5 pin to 7 pin hunter but I think it boils down to personal preference. Smart decision on having a spare release. I had an echo release fail a month before archery season this year so I replaced it with a wise guy and brought a spare. You don't want to be dead in the water without a release.

I agree with 2X & 3X gear comments above - but you mentioned drop camp. May be helpful to know what kind of plan you have? Return to base camp nightly or spike out from base?
This answer or style also plays into sleep system listed. If your in a wall tent with stove each night, you'll be fine. If you spike out for night or more (no heat) you may want to consider a warmer option on bag/quilt. You certainly have a solid list that could take many folks a lot longer than 2 years to compile - just want to refine what you want to pack based on the style of hunting you plan on doing. Good luck

We plan to return to camp nightly. We will be in a wall tent with a stove. When we originally planned to go I thought we would do a rifle hunt. I have definitely enjoyed using the gear hunting for whitetail in Georgia, it is much better than the old cotton and heavy fleece stuff I used.

Thanks for all the replies.

Looks like a pretty solid list. More clothing than necessary, but if you have pack animals to carry your gear, there's no need to pare your list down to the bare minimum. You might consider a sleeping bag with a lower temp rating. It's not uncommon for overnight temps to fall below freezing during early archery season depending on elevation.

I might also add having a rain fly/ trash bag for your gear available. Its hard to get a good nights rest when your wet and uncomfortable.

Since this is a drop camp, some camp shoes would be nice.

Dry bag -- the outdoor research 35 liter is fine.

Real food.

Just like everyone else said, probably more clothing than necessary. Base/mid/outer layer - only one of each is necessary top and bottom. I agree with cnelk, except I would leave the blue jeans and pack in the FL guide pants, bring a neck gaiter, hoody/midlayer, brimmed hat. 1 pair spare socks/underwear wash and rotate. If you have pack animals though, it's not a bad idea to bring a couple extra whatever you want.

Real food and snacks are a real luxury out there. Definitely worth bringing stuff in addition to freeze dried and bars (you'll get sick of those quick). Coffee and non-caffinated tea. Electrolytes. Camp shoes are super nice to have. Thick, clean sleeping socks/beanie. I sometimes pack in an ultralite packable chair, like the REI flexlite. For an extra 1-2 pounds it's real nice to have a seat at camp.

Fire making tools and know how to use them. A small folding saw (I use the curved silky pocketboy130), fixed blade (or axe/hatchet), tinder, lighter (and a back-up ferro rod/striker in case your lighter is wet). A good fixed blade knife should be in every outdoorsmans pack - hunter or not. And seriously study/practice making fires... it amazes me how many people think they can make a fire in the back country, but cannot when pressed to. It's a life saving skill.

For a multitool, pick up a leatherman rebar. It's a shrunken down supertool 300 and has everything you need, nothing you don't. Pack in a couple allen keys and whatever you might need for your bows.

Paracord. (1) 50ft line to cut and use, (1) 25ft to hang food. High visibility.

First aid/trauma kit. Should include band-aids, alcohol pads, anti bac ointment, major blood loss sponges ("overnight" maxipads are good), israeli bandage, tourniquet, gauze wrap, blood clotting powder, super glue, nitrile gloves, pain medicine, anti diarrhea medicine, allergy/antihistamine meds, poison ivy wipes.

Rescue beacon. I use the res-q link. Catastrophic emergency where you cannot hike out and need to be aired out. The res-q link doesn't need a monthly subscription and is reliable.

That's all I can think of! Good luck! Congrats on losing your weight!

Cayenne pepper for outside of game bags.
Really helps keep flys off meat bags.

See cnelk’s post. Pretty much mirrored my thoughts.

one extra pair of socks, one extra pair of u-wear, and maybe one extra base layer top.

All I take for tops during first rifle elk or fourth rifle deer:
Base layer: FL aerowool
Peleton 240
Arcteyrx Atom
Kifaru LPP
