To those of you who just got back from 1st rifle in Co, how was it?
I'm heading out this week for 2nd And wondering how the conditions were?
snow, if any, elevation? Elk activity? Dirt/forest road conditions? Elk movement? Water?
Im heading to a mountain wilderness zone from 8k-12kft.
Also any pics from those who were successful would help me get more amped than I already am!

It was awesome!! Terrain was a bit tough, frozen ground with 6” to 10” of snow in the mornings then a muddy slippery mess mid day.

I had 5 legal bulls in my cross hairs and ended up taking a smaller 5x4 on the last day.

seen them mostly in oak brush and in quackies.

got mine around 9k feet.

forest roads were about 12” of snow but it stormed when going in.

elk everywhere and moved all day long, but most of my opportunities were before 10 am.

Good work. I don’t think it’s snowed since then?? Was it melting away as you left?

Sounds like it might be a slippery mess trying to get up the hill with the truck to base camp. Early morning will probably be the best time to get through.
