Started scouting in May and found a lot of young deer with potential but struggled to find bucks I thought were 5 or older. On July 15th I settled in on this buck we call Trip because of his 3rd horn. He wasn’t the biggest buck I found but with 4 years of history with this deer and the uniqueness of him I fell in love! Opening day resulted in a miss at 35 yards… 😑. Day three I missed again at 41 yards!! I couldn’t control my nerves!!! I was shaking so bad. Finally on September 4th I found myself 15 yards from the deer with no shot. I let him walk by and then followed him on an established trail to his bedroom. At 23 yards I made the shot and another very fast follow up shot at 20 to put Trip to rest. I couldn’t believe it. He was laying dead right in front of me. This deer was one of the most elusive bucks I’ve had the opportunity to hunt and I am so grateful for his life and all the time I got to spend photographing him over the summer. Hope you all enjoy the story and the photos!

Congratulations on a hard earned buck! Great looking deer! He looks giant to me - I'm mainly a whitetail hunter - can you give us a score estimate? My guess is 160 but I am a rookie when it comes to muley scoring. If you'd rather not share anything with the score, I understand. I'm just trying to become a better judge - huge deer either way 👍🏻

Thank you! I’ll tell you this! The G2’s are 18.5 and the G3’s are 11 and 12. He is 27.5 wide. That’ll give you a good baseline to score the rest of him up! :)

Nice one! I bet that was satisfying to finally catch up with one you've been watching for so long.

What state are you in?
