Last weekend my wife and I went out looking to fill her road system goat tag here in Kodiak. About 10am with the sun highlighting the mountain next to us I saw this guy with his nose to the ground looking to be on a mission. He stood out pretty easily with the sun on him. He appeared to be almost on his knees crawling the way he was sprawled out. Looked like a low crawl. I let out a couple of fawn bleats hoping to stop him or at least slow him down. That didn’t work as he disappeared over a ridge.
We chased after him and finally caught up to find him with five does. One shot at 460 yards with a .280 AI did the trick but I put an insurance shot in just to back myself up. I found two entrances holes on the rib cage and they both came out the same hole opposite side (or it at least looked like a figure 8).
This was the first successful backpacking hunt my wife has been able to join me on. Round trip was just at five miles. He’s already processed and in the freezer. I was able to get 45lbs of processed meat from him.
