First bird that decided to play this year. Got him at 630 this morning. Came in with two hens to just light calling with no decoys. Dropped him in his tracks. 9 7/8 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs and 20.25lbs. Hens were only about 10 feet from me when I shot and I split them to shoot him.

I shot 6 birds this year, and was with my dad for all of the 5 he killed this spring. My dad had both knees replaced two years ago, he has a hip replacement scheduled for June, and he cannot hear turkeys due to hearing loss. He always kept up with me, and made this spring so much fun. We each shot our first Merriam's in April which was a stellar trip. Great times!

Congrats, beautiful picture and turkey . I assume your in western ND ? My son hunted eastern ND and same issue with snow and flooding wiping out a lot of the season. He said they were very active the last weekend, but kinda windy. Congrats again. Great job
Yes. West of Dickinson. And windy of course, although better than earlier in the day.

Dang! 11 turkeys between the two of you! Great work!

Where did you find the Merriams? I think they’re the prettiest out there. I’d love to hunt them.

I was over in the east side of the state hunting spring bears and kept hearing turkeys. Decided to do a little turkey hunting while I was over there. I’ve killed quite a few on the west side of the state but this was my 1st east side bird. Called him and 6 of his buddies into range.

After passing on a bunch of jakes and a many blown hunts, called this guy in an hour before my season ended. One distant gobble and he came in silent. Not my first turkey, but first tom. 👍👍

Hi all - Love the pictures! I’m new to turkey hunting and looking to go next spring. Do you all have any recommendations on whether it’s better as far as chances for success to go during the week or on the weekend?

Thanks!

I don’t think turkeys know the day of the week 😉

There is definitely more human pressure in the weekends.

I hunt mostly public land here in Ohio. There is definitely way more hunters out on the weekends then during the week. Except for the opener which is always on a Monday
