2025 Bear success thread

As the rule goes. Pictures or it didnt happen! Posted this one in the idaho bear thread. First bear for me.

Side note: Wish I picked up the LSWild Suppressor Cover before this hunt. That cheapo I had was flopping all over the place.

Set my site up (2nd year site) about 10 days ago, 1st trip back to check/refill this blackie was on camera a bunch during the day, and a decent brown bear is hitting at night. I’m short on time this time of year, so I decided to refill and see if this fella came back around. Got everything re-set, and went a fished/hiked around for a while to let things settle. Was planning to wait until evening to sit, but after a couple hours decided to go get everything situated in my tree so I’d be quicker and quieter when I came back. Was just getting settled and deciding where to hang things when this little guy came back in. I hadn’t even pulled my rifle up in the tree yet, so I did that as slowly and quietly as I could, grabbed my extra bullet out of my pocket and single fed it so I didn’t have to root around in my pack for a magazine, and dumped him just as he was getting sick of me and turned to leave.

Tried some new country that I had been wanting to see in Eastern Oregon. Starting point was based on a tip from a buddy that saw some bears during deer season. Got there mid day Saturday and took the quad for a rip after setting up camp. Realized I was too high up, green up hadn't really happened yet. Went lower and was hiking along some rimrock looking down into a canyon just before dark. Low and behold there is a bear standing in the middle of a green spot, 212 yards but steep downhill. I got my rifle set up on a bipod and used my pack and game bags as a rear bag. It's been awhile since I have shot a bear and had heard to shoot bears a little farther back than deer, middle of middle they say. I aimed for middle middle and touched off my 7mm rem. The bear took off into the brush. Worked my way down there through some helacious brush and get there at 8:30. No blood or obvious tracks so I wander around for 45 minutes but cant find it and am really not liking searching the brush with a head lamp. Seems like I missed but no way I missed that shot unless the gun was off. Check my zero in camp the next morning and it's on so I head back down there. I notice a couple vulchers circling, good sign. After another hour I finally find it, buried in the brush about 80 - 100 yards from the shot, looking at my tracks I had walked within 10 yards of it the night before. The meat smelled fine and the coat was perfect, i would guess 175# sow. Next time I shoot a bear I will try to break it down, none of this middle middle stuff.

Glad you found her. Way to stick with it and not give up. Looks like a beautiful hide on her!

2025 Idaho bear hunt in the books. Did great, 6 bears in camp. These 2 being the biggest. Mine was the Big Black was shot at 680yds. Custom 6.5prc slinging 130 terminal ascents. Steep downhill quartering to shot. Hit crease of shoulder and exited mid ribs bottom of brisket. My buddies was the Big brown was shot at 740yds. Steep downhill facing up at us shot. Hit center chest and folded where he was standing. No exit. 300 prc slinging 212 eldx. Had a great bear camp!
