Has anyone here built a 22” 6.5 PRC?
I have a T3 stainless action in 300wsm that I would like to rebarrel but stick to something that can still perform with a 22” barrel and magnum bolt face.

I'm sure it will be fine. I'm looking at building a 20" 6.5 prc out of an old 300 wsm with way too long of a barrel 26"+brake= 28.5" . Seems like I should be able to shoot it for hunting with no brake/can so it will me a nice handy rifle.

If you are worried about losing the extra fps then you can build a 6.5 Saum, or 6.5 SS or 6.5 WSM and gain the speed back!

I’m not too concerned about FPS, I just wasn’t sure if it didn’t make sense. Typically you see the CM offered on the more carbine type rifles.

The gray rifle is a Bergara Premier HMR, cut to 22" with a 6.5" suppressor. I was seeing ~2860 fps with the suppressor & factory 143 gr ELDXs, expecting a few more fps as the barrel gets more rounds down it. Also have some Unknown Munitions 127 LRX that I'll be shooting later this week with the chrono.

I haven't carried this setup without the can, but it rides well in the gunbearer and isn't too much of a pain in thick brush.

I have a 26" 6.5 PRC and my buddy built a 22". With 156 berger handloads, my 26" is running 3,000 FPS and my buddy's 22" is running 2890 FPS. I think the PRC is an excellent caliber for short barrels... I would like to build an 18" or 20" in the future. Both of these are on tikka actions.

22” would be fine for a PRC build.
I’m doing a 6.5 rpm finishing it off at 22” and they are close in terms of velocity

I’m building one now in 22”. Will gladly take portability and ease of handling over an extra 50 or 60 ft./s

I have a Seekins Element 6.5 PRC with
a 21” factory barrel. Shoots extremely well.
Got a Bartlein Carbon on order to try.
Will end up at 20-21”. Perfect Length.

Are there certain parent cartridges that lend themselves to shorter barrels quite easily? ie would a 300prc work just as well in a 22” or shorter barrel? Better than a 300wsm?
Though I like the idea of a 6.5 as most of the animals I take are deer.

The less overbore the cartridge the less velocity you'll lose as you shed inches, likewise muzzle blast will be less
Out of a 20" tube the prc might only gain 75-100 fps over the creedmoor or 260rem but at the expense of 20% more gun powder, recoil and muzzle blast.

That’s only true if you are comparing a 24” CM to a 20” PRC. Apples to oranges.

I just built a 18.5” 6.5prc the barrel had less then 30 rounds . but I was getting 2,700fps with 147 eldm factory ammo. That gun was a sweet to shooter

Not really more magnum to standard comparison.
most of hornady data for the prc is with a 26" tube and it sheds about 50 fps/inch And the creed loses about 25 fps per inch
So if both were at 20" the creed would be around 2700 and the prc 2850. Both burning rl26
Both capable cartridges only one uses more powder
