About a year ago I posted about getting ammo for several calibers. At the time, I got good feedback on the Hornady SST. I did better than I would have imagined, and I finally have the opportunity to test out some of the following 25-06 for whitetail (including a sighting in session). I'm shooting a Cooper. Any experience with these on whitetail, or its performance generally, is welcome (the list is in order of how much I have):
  1. Hornady American Whitetail 117gr
  2. Hornady SST 117gr
  3. Hornady GMX 90gr
  4. Hornady Precision Hunter 110gr
  5. Federal Fusion 120gr
  6. Sako Gamehead 117gr
  7. Winchester Silvertip 125gr
  8. Remington CoreLokt 100gr

I'd be more than comfortable with any of those on whitetails honestly. I'm becoming a mono fan tho and the gmx would be my first pick. Used 100gr etip on my last whitetail out of the 25-06 and worked wonderfully

Take the most accurate, go forth with a sharp knife and tags and make meat.
For myself assuming accuracy was identical I'd prefer, keeping in mind I would worry more about the tags and sharp knife mentioned first.
1.Fusion
2.Whitetail, GMX and Sako
3.Silvertip and SST
and last precision hunter or the 100 grain corelokt
The SST's will certainly dump deer fast but they were less likely to exit when driven at 25-06 speeds up close than choices 1 and 2 for me.
