I stopped by my gunsmith today to have a couple of small items checked on my recent 338 Federal build. He is soon to retire and told me he was going to gift to me a Remington 600 full custom in 260 Remington. He knows I love the Rem 600 action and has done several custom builds for me with this action. I do not have pictures yet but the thing is gorgeous! Exhibition grade walnut stock and too many custom touches to list. It has a partial octagon Bartlein barrel too. It is a standard twist so I am assuming a 1-9.

My question is mainly in line with what bullets will work with this twist. I have a couple hundred 129 Hornady SPs which I think should work nicely. What bullets am I limited to for deer hunting?

I ran the 130vld in my old 260 and they were a superb killing bullet from 40y - 480 and i am sure they would keep killing well beyond that.

I didnt like the vld in my remmag but that 6.5 pill was a ripper

130 grain tipped game kings have done nothing but impressed me on game. All with a 260AI

I've had 5 260rems, all of them liked the 129ablr and the 123 Absolute Hammer. I just had one of them reamed to 260ai, and I'm really looking forward to what it can do.

There is nothing to worry about there, good luck with it, the 100 grain ballistic tip is wonderful as is the 120, the 129 SST is devastating and the 130 TMK is shaping up well
Put up some pictures 👍

130s with 45 gr of h4350 is a great load. I've shot mostly Berger vlds and they do well.

I’ve had good luck with the old 140 Speer GrandSlam, probably long discontinued but my favorite 25 years ago.
More recently the 130ELDm has worked well for my son. He also killed a cow elk with a 129SP midway was selling as 2nds, I think it is a Win PowerPoint but no way to tell for sure. I scooped up a bunch of Nosler 140 Solid bases the other day and we might try them this year.

Hard to find anything that isn’t going to be pretty good inside of 400 yards at 260 speeds.

It looks like the advice above on bullet weight is sound. I love the 600, and it should be a handy hunter, although it sounds like it might be too pretty to carry into the toolies. I think the 600 chambered in the 260 would be the perfect deer rig and more practical than the 6.5 Rem Mag.
I look forward to your sharing photos.

Sounds like a nice setup. Any bullet under 1.3" will be fine in a 9 twist. Once you go over that, it's a crapshoot. My Sako 75 .260 with a 9 twist shoots the old 140 gr Speer Deep Curls like the Hammer of Thor.

I got started in precision rifle with a 260 Remington. There is a huge selection of 6.5 bullets to choose from. I had some success with Sierra Matchking 123s and Lapua Scenar 136s using H4831sc. ADG was making 260 brass back then. I wouldn't venture into reforming 308 brass - I suspect you might have problems getting consistent neck tension.

He is giving me a lot of Lapua 260 Rem brass but it is good to know that there are options out there.

If you have lots of 129’s use them. Pair them with a powder that shoots well and venture forth without another thought.
