So I have a 270win that I'm going to have some work done to it. At the time i wasn't planning on changing it into a 280AI, but lately it has been crossing my mind. I was just curious if its worth making it into a 280AI?
My Ruger M77 in .308 kicks more than my CA Ridgeline in .28 Nosler.
I shoot a 280 Al custom rifle and also have a 270 the ballistics on the 280al are far better than the 270 but it all depends on your use.

No.

What you really get is a cool response when someone asks “whatcha shooting?”

Nobody with a 280 Ain’t Interested is going to tell you they could have done the same thing with a 270.

But they know they could.

I have rifles in both, if your .270 is shooting good I'm not sure I'd rebarrel it, just get the rifle setup how you like and enjoy. Having said that if it was my main rifle and I had the dough I really like everything about my 280 AI Barnes 145 LRX's at 3050 FPS makes it my do all western rifle, in fact I'm currently having another one built.

I’ve been a 270 guy for years, love them. Especially nowadays there are some super sleek bullets and awesome new powders than can turn and old 270 into an even better cartridge. I’ve shot the 140 accubonds for everything and they flat work but there’s a few slugs with higher b.c. The newer Bullets can turn them into a laser beam. But I’m have a hard time going away from what’s always worked. The 280 ai is a dream gun! I own it’s father cartridge, the 280 rem as well. For a reloader the 280 ai is awesome and with factor ammo almost as awesome! I might own one one day but for now I’m sticking with the 270 and the ol 280!

Additional 0.6”....provided you can read the wind to 0.3 MPH. Awesome.
I won’t bother to compare a 1/2 MOA rifle vs. a 1 MOA rifle.

I was debating between these two when buying a new rifle, ended up with the 270 win since it just works at hunting ranges.

If i wanted more power than a 270 win, I'd just jump to a 7mm RM or 300 WM & use light copper only bullets to keep recoil at a minimum.

You supplied the analysis, and then clutch your pearls when we pick the better numbers. Here, “thanks I’ll take the one with worse ballistics please”. Does that do it for you? You’re in a thread comparing 280 to 270, what do you expect?

You’re outta your f’n mind if you think that amounts to jack shit.

I'll agree that you won't notice the difference between either inside 500 yards, for the most part. Just trying to figure out why you posted those numbers trying to bolster the 270 is better argument. A 129 grain SST in 260 Rem is closer to the 270 #'s you posted than the 270 vs 280 #'s you posted.

Mono y mono...stay apples to apples. You can throw the 127 LRX in there too.

Guy gets hit by a dump truck...would he be deader if it was full of gravel?

But hey, if you wanna chase unicorns, pixie dust, and things that exist on paper have at it...I’m sure it stings a little.
