The 284 Win has been incredibly simple to load…My barrel likes H4350 for the heavies. Now that the barrel has settled in I am getting 2950 with the 162 ELDs. Could push it up but it shoots real good out at 600 yards. Or at least it did. Dropped the action into another stock and topped with a different scope. Need to sight in. The following is a comparison between 280AI Hornady factory load and my 284 Win 162 eld before the barrel sped up:

Realistically though the 280AI numbers should be much higher if it’s handloaded. I’m sending 155 Absolute Hammers at 3100fps and 180 Berger’s at 2900fps. That is a great 284 load though.

I am getting the same velocity with my 280AI using a 20" barrel. I haven't really pushed it though.

I could hop up the 284 win to get closer with velocity with once fired brass. But I have a load that has a low SD, ES and is crazy accurate. Six hundred yards is currently my own limitation. I had an old Tikka T3 action with .473 bolt face, long bolt stop and several standard long action magazines. Since I hand load and Lapua brass was easy to obtain, it was a no brainer going with the 284 Win. My COAL if shooting the 180 VLDs is about 3.2”.
