I have a 280a that shoots 143 Has to .5" and 3180 fps using 4831sc but since I am having Mike build me a 6.5 SAUM though I would look a a 168 grain option. Low and behold using H1000 and 168ABLRs yielded groups in the .2's and .3s using 61.5 grains of powder. Haven't chronographed it yet but got me thinking which way I should go. stick with the HHs or go with the ABLRs for deer and elk from 100 to 800 yds. any thought I have zero exp with the ABLR buddy swears by them in in 6.5-284. the HHs did well on deer and antelope over the last couple years from 80 to 420

I have put a few ABLR done range out of 6.5prc and 7rum. I found them to preform fairly well on cow elk my wife and kids have whacked. For a 280 those 168 are rock solid for an elk at those ranges

I would stick with the 168 lrabs because they shoot so well. I have taken three elk with them from a 7 mag. Not really long range, 120-320 yards but they have taken the elk down with one shot. They act more like a cup and core at that distance. No pass through but a total destruction of the internal cavity. I am sure the HH would have a pass through if that is what you are looking for.
I have some 143HH loaded up for my 280ai just to keep the recoil down in my kimber, So I don't have snything against mono bullets.
