I've got a Savage 30-06. Wondering what the best bullet and what grain to shoot for hunting Mulies in Wyoming?

I shot 165 grain accubonds until I couldn't find them. I am now going to try the 180's because at the time it was all I could find. The 165 was great.

My '06 really likes the 178 ELD-X and everything I've touched with them has died in short order.

Whatever your gun likes best. 150-168gr is where I’d start. Factory ammo I’d look at federal and Nosler loads.

My 30-06s are used on several game animals from coyotes to elk. One likes 168gr TTSX, one likes 180gr Partitions. I’ve shot jacketed lead bullets from 150gr Ballistic Tips to 180gr Partitions and the difference in drop at 300 was maybe an inch to an inch and a half, so not outside standard error. At 400, the difference is only a couple inches. So, I didn’t see a need to have a lighter load and risk having to re-zero.

my longest of shots on many deer and elk was 200 yards. i use 180 grains but if you like to shoot long range you won;'t like the trajectory from a 30 06 with 180 grains. puts em down well though if you can hunt and get closer than those who sling lead at first sight
