I'm seriously looking to get a 30 Nos barrel made up for a switch barrel in my LR hunting rig.
I really like the 35 degree shoulder and general case size.
I plan on running 245 or 230 Bergers suppressed in a 24" barrel with H1000 or Retumbo, and would like to run them in the mid 2900's to 2800's with 245s.

I plan on using Peterson brass that just came out, and of course it'll be throated out appropriately.

Those of you with 30 nos experience I'd love to hear some feedback on accuracy, tuneability, ease of brass sizing, and barrel life.
I've seen some dismal reports of the later that seem more like 28 nos life, but those reports have all been with hot loads using N570

I have a 27" 30 Nosler that is throated for the 215's with Jeff Brozovich's reamer. I am using H1000, CCI250's and ADG brass. There seems to be 2 nodes that can be achieved with H1000...2900fps and just over 3000fps. I chose to run mine on idle at 2900. There is a 3100fps node that can be had with a couple of the faster powders.

I have around 400 rounds through mine now, barrel looks great. This probably doesn't help you much, but I think you're on the right track with your powder choices. I simply can't buy into the idea that the 30 is a barrel burner compared to similar sized cases such as 300Win and 300Wby simply based on slight case dimension differences. We've all heard enough reports on certain powders now (some by reputable smiths) to safely draw some conclusions on previously mentioned powders and their effect on throat erosion.

Personally, I think the 30 Nosler is the best case design when throated properly. I would go with ADG brass over Peterson. The 215 is a better choice than the 230 or 245 unless you are going to +P it or run a long barrel.

Yeah I really like the case design and capacity over the PRC.
I found a smoking deal on a bunch of Peterson brass and made the order, do you have a reason for not liking it as much as ADG?

I'm sure the 215 would be fine but I'm a real fan of heavy for caliber bullets.
If I can send a 245 at 2800 from a 24" barrel it beats the 215 at 3000 in energy and wind drift at 1k

Old thread I know, but did you end up shooting 230s or 245s out of your 30? Thanks
